A new season and a fresh start for the competitions. The season is already under way with the first two games already completed United lie fifth on the table after drawing at home to Newcastle and beating Portsmouth away.

In the off season we have seen the ups and downs of the Euro competition and with all the media coverage of Ronaldo and his possible move to Real Madrid things certainly haven’t been quiet. On the transfer front things have been noisy about all the possible moves, but with a already impressive squad Ferguson has yet to actually sign a new striker. With the squad number registered a little over 2 weeks ago there was a few inclusions with the likes of the Manucho getting shirt number 26, according to SkySports he has actually been successful in obtaining a work permit to play for United, and the Brazilians Fabio and Rafael taking number 20 and 21. Danny Welbeck the 19 year old youngster, Manchester born and bread, has been handed his first team number (19) after producing top class reslts last season with 16 goals in 25 starts including a superb hat-trick against Manchester City. The Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael are also new promotions from the Academy and Reserve squads, both who are promising full backs who love to attack. Fabio playing a left back and Rafael playing at right back. Silvestre has been one of the departures to rivals Arsenal.

Ferguson has also been approached to put together a squad for Great Britain for the 2012 Olympics that are to be held in London. Ferguson though has not made any definite commitment to the role as of yet, though he will be 70 at that point.

United’s Darren Fletcher provided the goals in both games for United proving how diverse and adaptable the team can be. Scoring a goal only 2 minutes after Newcastle’s Martins scored the opener in the first game of the season and then slipping one away against Portsmouth in the 32nd minute of the match. With United already on the way to increasing the number of trophies they have already added the FA’s Community shield trophy away beating Portsmouth 3-1 on penalties and with the EUFA Super Cup on Friday night (29/08/2008) against Zenit St Petersburg yet another trophy comes into the sights of the mighty Champions.
