The three stooges ?

Having cancelled their contracts with Macc , I assumed they’d got their dream moves sorted out. Osadebe and Vassell off to join Sol at Southend and MWH off to who knows where . Turns out Southend,at least so far, can’t afford to make any signings and MWH hasn’t surfaced anywhere. Can understand their motives for leaving but they’re looking a bit stupid at the moment. Might as well have stayed, played and picked up a wage ( even if late )

Miles left this message on Twitter.

My time at @thesilkmen has come to an end, firstly I would like to thank the staff and all the fans who supported us through the good as well as the bad times. I have made some friends and memories that will stick with me for life! All the best for the rest of the season

Whilst Theo Vassell tweeted:

“My time at the @thesilkmen has come an end. I’d like to thank all the players, fans and staff for the last few months supporting us on and off the field, I’ve enjoyed my time here and made some great memories, I’d like to wish you all the best for the future!”,

and Paddy Osadebe tweeted:

“Thank you to my team mates, fans and staff @thesilkmen for my time there but unfortunately it’s come to an end. Been a pleasure playing for and with you all. Created great moments to last a lifetime with the great people I met there. Wishing y’all the very best. Thank You”

Never doubted their commitment while here. My point was that they’ve been misled by others, eg Sol , to leave and now left in limbo.

The Echo has now posted:

"SOUTHEND United are under a transfer embargo due to money owed to HMRC, Echosport understands.

The Shrimpers did not make a single signing during the January transfer window.

But it is believed the club are hopeful of being free to complete deals next week.

Former Macclesfield Town defender Theo Vassell put pen to paper on a deal yesterday but his deal cannot be officially registered until the embargo is cleared.

The Shrimpers are also believed to have agreed terms with goalkeeper Ted Smith."

I can't see the club letting him back after he asked the league to cancel his contract.

Equally if he hated being at the club enough to opt for that approach I'd hope he had enough pride in himself to "never go back"

Shame he would be great to have back...

We all know the reason why the three players left the club , due to Irregular payments, you've seen in the media and from the players how it affected the team and their personal life. It's a shame it has come to this I'm sure if the players and staff were being paid as they should,
we would not be having this conversation on this message board and I personally think Macclesfeild would have been performing well. Good luck to the three players they have all wished Macclesfield well and have moved on. I assume MWH will certainly be at another football team ? no one would leave if they had no interest from other clubs within the football league.

Before the three p[layers left MK said he was releasing two players because they did not fit in with his plans and he wanted them to be able to find another club. One was presumably Harris, the other may have been MWH.

So, MWH has signed for Colchester. Good for him - at least we won’t be playing against him again this season.

Glad he got fixed up these are young players with a career at stake and it can have done no good to have all that uncertainty hanging over them.

Latest from the Southend Echo re: the situation at Southend United:

"SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell opted against making a move for defender Miles Welch-Hayes, due to the club’s transfer embargo.

Blues are still waiting to officially register former Macclesfield Town duo Theo Vassell and Emmanuel Osadebe.

And Campbell therefore decided not to pursue their ex-Silkmen team-mate Welch-Hayes who went on to sign for Colchester United.

Campbell said: “Miles is a great player and a great athlete but what can you do?

“If you can’t get two over the line then what’s the point in talking to a third?”

Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin told Echosport last week that the club must pay £600,000 to HMRC before they can come out of their transfer embargo."

Confirmation, on the BBC Sport website, that Paddy Osadebe and Theo Vassell are 'stuck in limbo':

"Southend United chairman Ron Martin has confirmed the club is under an English Football League transfer embargo due to an unpaid tax bill.

The Shrimpers will owe £668,000 to HM Revenue and Customs by 11 March, with a further month "stacked up behind".

Sol Campbell's side are 22nd in League One, 17 points from safety.

"The EFL won't lift the embargo until we have paid HMRC, which is quick once we have demonstrated to them we are doing so," Martin said.

Southend have agreed deals to sign Theo Vassell and Emmanuel Osadebe - who previously played under ex-arsenal defender Campbell at Macclesfield - but they are not yet able to register them.

Martin told a supporter group meeting the club's wage bill is the eighth-highest in League One and would be halved to £1.5m if they are relegated to the fourth tier.

"The two lads are chomping at the bit and I feel guilty about that because if Sol had them it would probably lift the team," he said.

"I believe we could look forward to a successful season next year, but probably in League Two.""

It really does seem like the EFL make things up as they go along sometimes. Unless we've paid the HMRC, how were we allowed to register players this year (or even the past summer)? Did the EFL apply some different standard because of the cancelled contracts, or because they've decided we get point deductions instead? More questions nobody will ever answer.
