Just want to write a positive note on here to congratulate who ever has written the last few player centric atricles on the the web site. I thought Charlotte's piece, the one on Kels and this latest one about Corey O'Keefe are really uplifting articles that give me hope that our club might just get through the absolute disaster. Well written and very well judged given that the (sh****g) owner must be tying your hands behind your back on what to say in the bigger issues. Good one.

...and having progressed from the Group Stage, both U19s teams have won in the first round of the knockout stages of the EFL CEFA National Cup this afternoon.

Both games were played at Egerton Youth Club, with the 'A' team recovering from an early 2 goal deficit to go in at the break all square at 3-3, before overpowering Blackburn Rovers 'A' in the 2nd half, running out 10-3 winners.

It was then the turn of the 'B' team, who scored a goal in each half to see off Burton Albion 'B' by 2 goals to nil.

As some of you know I managed to get to the last 2 games from Saudi. I expected a very negative vibe but we secured 4 points from 2 games with attractive passing football, and I found massive commitment from everyone I spoke to at the ground about keeping the ship afloat. Unsung hero's - like Elaine with the kids, Andy W, Andy Mellor, Bob Trafford, the handful of remaining Macc senior stewards, Ray Bamford, and many more - MACC THROUGH & THROUGH. Heartbeat of the club. If you are reading this Amer, and I know you are, the spirit of these guys will never be broken, you should be the one praising them, thanking them for their undying support.
Returning for these games was a very uplifting experience and I for one feel very confident about the future of our brilliant club.

Agree lythamandblues all very positive news from the youth development guys. Must say this youth section has been a constant positive this season (even at times when all else has fell around it).

What with the u21s, seems we really do have a good crop. And at the very least representing MTFC in a fine light in tough circumstances.

Keep up the good work.

I guess this structure will only really be proved worthwhile when a couple of these promising young lads can pull on a first team blue shirt, and do battle for MTFC.

Academy, community, and youth development are all very well, but at the end of the day, we have to say, 'What's in it for us?'

Silkmen11 if you mean dates for the games, looking at the EFL CEFA website all the fixtures in the South section are scheduled for 1pm on Wed 05-Feb-2020.

The times / dates haven't been posted for the North section yet, but I assume it is likely that they will be set for the same day.

Mike Minay, BBC Radio Manchester Sport has tweeted (c. 5.20pm):

"Macclesfield Town insist that defender Fiacre Kelleher is not for sale - despite reported interest from Mansfield Town.

The Silkmen have also agreed a deal with Egerton Youth Club to train there until the [end of the] season.

Mitchell has a great pedigree having played for Shrews and Oxford and seems very confident. Whitehead is a known quantity and a box to box player who can carry the ball. I am sure we will see some more incomings soon as MK is looking to shape and strengthen. Hope we can get Harris MWH and Mc Court back as we have been hit hard with these three on top of Vassell Archibald and more recently Paddy.

A mixed bag for the U19s in the EFL CEFA Cup Quarter Finals (North) today.

The 'A' team visited Nottingham Forest 'A' and secured an excellent 3-2 win, with goals from Josh Clegg, Ramani Manning and Tyler James. Both Josh and Tyler featured for the 1st team in the FA Cup tie against Kingstonian earlier this season.

Meanwhile the 'B' team visited Doncaster Rovers 'A'. Rovers are in the same division (North Central 1) as Macc's 'A' team so this was always going to be a tough tie. They acquitted themselves well before being succumbing to a narrow 4-3 defeat - with Luke Draysey (2) and Harry Massey scoring for Macc.

The 'A' team and Doncaster now progress to the Semi Finals (North), alongside Derby County 'A' (who won 7-1 at Carlisle United) and Sheffield United 'B' (won 4-2 at Rochdale).

macchiavelli !? Academy, community, and youth development are all very well, but at the end of the day, we have to say, 'What's in it for us?'

Clues in your question surely. What's in it is Youth Development, football being played and bringing young players to the club. It's a no brainer whats in it.

Plus eluding to your first question, they have pulled on 1st team shirts (Kingstonian FA cup/ Tranmere senior cup). The former being in crazy circumstances granted.

Hats of to the whole thing and credit where credit due for once for MTFC. In a very turbulent season, this has been a huge plus. [^]

I think the issue here is that they're not a proper academy. Which means they don't play against proper academy sides (just community sides) so unfortunately they will have play against good enough quality or with good enough quality to benefit the club in the long run.

Sealey's aim was to create a proper academy and keep this community side too.

These haven't signed contracts with the club- it's a different programme using the Macclesfield Town logo.

This programme is run by Paul McGuire who is also employed as the clubs youth development manager. He runs it for the club, operating at the highest strand available and allowed at this time. (It staggers me that people who think they know things don't actually listen or ready reports).

Talks have taken place with EFL elite player performance pathway as to a cat 4 addition. (Like a Salford City).

And let's be frank the return on investment for the club has already paid off, as if it wasn't for these lads playing in the FA cup against Kingstonian the club would have incured a massive fine (maybe docked points) and would already probably be out of the league.

Not to mention by these guys playing that game the club is aloud in the FA Cup next season. If that includes a potential money spinning tie with one of the big boys, then we have a lot of thank this youth development program for.

Fola... how is it a different programme using the Macclesfield Town logo.

They are Macclesfield Town. Its run by the club & community, in the EFL community alliance league.

Its not their fault they have miles better players than anyone else and win most weeks. That's down to her impressive recruitment surely. Proofs in the pudding that lads regularly attend first team training. And even if that's just bumping up the numbers for a good session then it's well worth it.

What!!! a development program that creates good players and doesn't cost the club a penny? Oh, how terrible.

Stop hating. Get of the clubs back for christ sake.

I think the benefits will be generally accepted when/if....

One or more of these undoubtedly promising youngsters pulls on a first team shirt for MTFC.

or

MTFC make some meaningful wonga out of selling/transferring some of them.

Until that happens, it all rather seems like a case of 'jam tomorrow' coated in community worthiness.

Makes for some decent tweets and news articles though. Perhaps the community finds worth it that at least.

I'm not hating at all. I agree they are doing well but they are not an academy or even a football of excellence like back in the day.

This community side and an academy are two separate things. They don't play against other professional sides. They play against 'community' sides which are again only affiliated by a logo to their actual clubs.

Joe Sealey mentioned this on his Podcast on the SLE. He mentioned to Silk FM too (I think).

I agree they're doing great but it's not against other professional academies. [^]

Fair play to them, they can only beat what is infront of them.

For info, the draw has been made for the U19s EFL Cup Semi Finals (North and South).

Macclesfield Town A have been drawn at home to fellow North Central 1 side Doncaster Rovers A, the team that narrowly defeated the B team in the Quarter Finals.

The young Silkmen defeated Doncaster 4-0 in the League, courtesy of a strike from Josh Clegg and a Tyler James hat-trick, when they hosted them back in September. The return League fixture is currently scheduled for 26-Feb-2020.

The draw in full is:

NORTH Semi Final

Derby County A vs. Sheffield United B
MACCLESFIELD TOWN A vs. Doncaster Rovers A

SOUTH - Semi Final

Swindon Town A vs. Stevenage A
Plymouth Argyle A vs. Brentford A

- Ties to be played on Wed 04-Mar-2020.

Well run, well publicised and can only be a huge positive for MTFC.

And a good write up on the OS to boot.
