Podcast - episode 5

Report Message | Email Message To A Friend | Reply To Message

The latest podcast is now live, myself and Jenny sat down with former Silkmen commercial manager, Dan Ackerley.

We discussed Dan's time from the club from joining, working with Mark Blower and how he left the club.

We also discuss ongoings on the pitch, the land next to the John Askey Terrace and review the interview from Elliott Durrell from a couple weeks ago.

Any feedback, let me know. What do you want us to discuss in future podcasts?

Don’t listen to it if you’re having a bad day or you may require the Samaritans.
Jenny is a doom monger and although Dan seems like a good bloke who was badly treated by the club and its absentee owner he is bitter and just adds to the gloom.
The end is nigh.

For once someone talks sense.

Who cares what a commercial manager from years ago thinks.

He was brought on to cause controversy nothing else.

And as for the two who present it they may as well give people razor blades

It’s utter rubbish that just wants to cause trouble always has been

Big sexy boy - no-one's asying they could do a better job.
You have to be able to take criticism with a pinch of salt and then use it to your advantage.

I can take criticism, not a problem. Just putting it out there, if someone can do better, the door is open

The land next to the Moss Rose ground and formerly occupied by the Silkman Pub is subject to a planning application 19/4807M made by Scotts Sports Pension and is for:

"Erection of autocentre for vehicle repairs and servicing and MOT test centre with associated operations for the sale and fitting of tyres, batteries and exhausts and vehicle washing/ valeting/ detailing operations with parking and service areas and access"

It seems somewhat rich that a fans' forum that has featured constant criticism of the club over the last year or more with regular predictions of its imminent demise should feel the need to accuse others of negativity and doom-mongering.

Silk purse.
To describe this forum as having a collective view and constantly criticising the club is simply untrue. There is ,in fact, a sharp division I that will loosely describe as “”protesters “ and “supporters”.
You will find my view expressed towards the end of the “players not paid again” thread where I describe the “protesters” as counter productive for the club.
Other than finance, the biggest problem we have at Macc is the total disconnect between fans and the Club, resulting in falling attendances and therefore income.
Constant negativity like that in the podcast merely makes the situation worse.
I see no prospect of this being changed by the heirarchy, perhaps for once the fans should take the lead and really get behind the team who are doing well and create a positive energy ourselves.

Same, brilliant podcast and we are getting some idea of what actually went on and the current state of things.

The more I listen, the more it’s clear what an absolute disgrace Blower was and how Amar is clearly the puppet master from afar.

Fair point, Mr Dobby, I should have distinguished between those who condemn and those, such as yourself, who make positive contributions. My point still holds however and it is clear that the dominant mood on this site is negative and nihilist.

Silk purse.
I wouldn’t argue with any of that.

People would do well to get on You tube and see the story of the Cowleys and how they turned Lincoln around, they certainly got everyone on board there and this was a club they described as still in “mourning” after being relegated five years earlier.
The power of positivity comes through loud and clear.

Great credit must go to Johnny and Jenny for their efforts on the podcast which must continue to probe and question the oft baffling issues that surround our beloved club [8D].

Great effort guys and please keep it coming because it needs to do so [^][:D].

Kindest regards

I quite like the podcast; I agree with some others that Jenny seems to be "doom and gloom" but then again she is a Silkman and we often have good reason to be disheartened

My only criticism would be that the invited guests are all "MTFC has-beens" in that they are all disgruntled ex-employees - it would be great to get some actual players/staff/managers still involved with the club on for a balanced view - but I'm guessing Amar probably has instructed that never to happen

You won't please everyone, and I'm getting a little tired of every second minute in the podcast the talk going back to "well I wonder if that means the players get paid" but overall it's an enjoyable hour and worth a listen even if you don't agree with it all

Keep it up, whilst I don't necessarily agree/like everything you say, I'm glad someone is getting the opinions out there

When's the next one due?

Enjoyed this whole series and thanks to all who have taken all the time and effort to put it together. As for future topics, I saw on the SLE group a gentleman who was digging into the 'charge code' and perhaps he or others are qualified to render an expert opinion on just how skint we are? There have been others on this board who have referred to experience with other sport organisations. Is there any evidence of anything being done to right this ship?

The OS recently advertised for a physio reporting to job titles that I don't recall seeing actually assigned to anyone:

https://www.mtfc.co.uk/news/2019/october/23.10.19-club-vacancy-senior-first-team-physiotherapist/

...most notably: First Team Manager/Director of Football

Also, get Yatesy in for chat. Drop into his cafe. We probably paid for it. It's not a million miles away,.

I haven't heard the podcast, but as a general comment, I think it must be a good thing if Macc fans have access to the views of others on what's happening at the club, rather than being fed an exclusive diet of the sanitized 'party line' that appears on the OS, where, it appears that our 6th winding-up petition in a row doesn't even warrant a mention.

Maybe it was just a dream!

We have quite a good team at the moment - not a bad coaching team with Whit involved. They rarely get a mention anywhere in the general doom and gloom.

It's hard to see beyond the financial malaise at present. A bit like saying how well the orchestra on the Titanic was playing.

There's a certain irony to the situation at present, in that on the pitch things are arguably as promising as they have been in a very long time, whilst off the pitch I don't think any of us would suggest things are anything other than extremely worrying.

Highlights from the podcast (JA section):

Askey still hasn't been paid his bonus. The club have until May to pay.

Reason he left the club was when the retained list came out with players on that he didn't want to keep and players released he didn't want released.

Danny Whitaker and George Pilkington the top 2 players he managed at Macc.

Didn't sign Durrell for Vale because they had enough wide players.

Stopped doing club interviews stopped because things were getting changed in the programme from what he was saying.

Shocked all backroom staff were let go after title winning season.

Brexit hasn't affected Port Vale [:P]
