Hmmm ... heís a good finisher but his overall play isnít up to League 2 imo. Maybe itís about freeing up a wage to bring in a better player ? Weíll see.

A natural goalscorer but his overall play makes it hard to fit into a team set up as both Askey and Campbell found.

Unable to hold the ball up and not physically strong enough. Would not have been a first team regular. Good move to free up the budget (assuming we can).

Wilson was the only regular goalscorer that we had for the past two seasons. Let's hope the two new strikers know how to put the ball in the net.
I wish him well at Oldham and he did a good job for us. I fear he may end up in the long list of ex Macc players who find their eventual level is National League or below.

Sounds like he was free to leave because he wasnít being paid , which doesnít free up a wage really. Maybe Sol didnít want him and he was just back with us to keep fit ? If Sol did want him, he must be furious at this.

I agree. Can't argue with his scoring record, but never commanded a place, and always felt he was playing a bit part. Probably less concerned with losing him over how he is replaced. The small guy who trialled at Congleton, who I think is with Brentford, looked sharp, but don't know whether he's still around.

In his first season with us he started 23 games and scored 14. Last season he started 21 League games and scored 10. A good return both times but started in only about half the games. Therein lies the problem with him as both managers found out.

He loses the ball very easily when we had the ball high up the pitch putting the defence under pressure as we lose possession.

Did not expect that one bit. We are really going to have to strengthen our forward line now.

Wonder what Kristian Dennis is up too ?

Or Barnes Homer judging by our budget

We have a couple of big strong strikers. We probably need someone in the mould of Fairhurst who can play "in the hole" as they say these days.

We only have Ironside and Blyth as out and out strikers now, and no goalkeepers, with just 2 weeks to the start of the season.

Does this sound to you like good preparation?

It's the 'no goalkeepers' that concerns me[sad]. A good loan like Keiran O'Hara last term would be ideal - not sure who the triallist keepers are, or whether they're deemed good enough with no hint of offers being made. I too would add my thanks to Scott Wilson for his invaluable contribution to the cause.

Whether people thought Wilson was up to the standard of league football or not is irrelevant. The fact is for the last two season he was our top scorer and without his goals last season we would have been relegated.

We should have had a fee.

I agree the main thing a striker should be judged on is scoring goals and he did a job for us, notably in a struggling team last season. Disappointed he's gone but it's a good move for him and wish him well.

Don't panic before we see how effective Ironside and Blyth are.
Maybe SC is not that keen on out and out wingers.. Look how he used Durrell and also liked wing backs to get forward last season.

Scott is a good footballer (comfortably our best natural finisher for donkey's years) and a really nice unassuming lad as well [^].

This is very sad for Macc fans, but if I were in Scott's shoes I would most definitely take this opportunity to help to secure regular payment for my services and help pay for the necessities in life like food and shelter [:O].

Thanks so much for all you have done for our club Scott and you will always receive a warm welcome at the Moss Rose buddy [^].

Kindest regards

PB [smi].

Very disappointing. If not always a first team starter he was an excellent super sub and often came on and scored. Bound to bang a few past us next season.

Wilson was v average imho and many of his goals came from Marsh link ups. In truth marsh and wilson were great non league pairing and we need better.
Wish him well but a more physical proven league one/two striker a better option.
In sol i trust.

Yes! If only we could afford one!

Great finisher Wilson but all around play not good enough. I have heard to was our highest paid player so to be honest, this could probably be used better elsewhere.

Just hope we can make up his goals though somewhere.

Usually, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

Scott Wilson had his faults, but he was our top scorer 2 seasons running.

The question has to be, can we afford anything better?

Our best option might well be for Sol to use his nous and contacts, and try to get a young striker on a season loan. One that will fit into Sol's preferred pattern of play.

A gamble? Of course, but we don't have too many options.

Quite aside from debating the relative merits of Scott Wilson's usefulness in the squad going forward, it is truly appalling that he has had his contract breached by the club thus making him a free agent.

Scott was huge in our NL title tun in. He was largely on the bench, perhaps unfortunate to be kept out of the first XI. But his attitude was spot on. All smiles, all encouragement for his teammates, entirely professional for his manager. And when he did come on as a sub, produced a performance and scored goals. That was pure class by Wilson, and this is far from pure class by our football club. I've often given the hierachy at MTFC the benefit of the doubt in the past, but this is an unacceptable way to behave. I feel both disappointed and embarrassed.
