SC has done what many thought was not achievable and kept us up. He has to be given the best chance of success next season, the budget needs to be agreed and he needs to shape the squad how he wants.

We have 32 in the playing squad (which I assume has had an impact on wages being paid). I think SC will want rid of a significant number of those. I am excited to see what he can achieve with getting his own players in and a full pre season.

Last year our season was scuppered by what we did/did not do in the summer... we canít let that happen again.

A sizable chunk of the budget is already committed on:
Cameron
Smith
Fitzpatrick
Marsh
Wilson
Vincenti
Stephens
MWH

I thought Evans had another year on his contract. How sure are you about Cameron and Smith?

Cameron - when he re-signed in January, I think it was to the end of season if we went down, 18 months if we stayed up

Smith - there was a story that he didn't play at Lincoln to avoid triggering a one-year extension to his contract based on games played. Also on the Star Lane facebook page, one of the people who went out celebrating with the players said Smith confirmed that he will be here next year.

(However, the same person says Smith said that Durrell would be here next year. Durrell signed on a 2 year contract in 2017, but may have extended eg when his contract was converted to an EFL one around the time of the Accrington away game.)

I thought Evans was on a 1 year contract but could easily be wrong.

If the above is true then that is arguably our 3 most influential outfield players signed up for next season.

If I were Campbell I would make damn sure we kept Elliott Durell, we are a different team with him. Last year could be argued his influence probably tipped the balance between winning the league and finishing in the playoffs, this season it most certainly is significantly because if him that we have remained in the EFL. I would be intrigued to know just when we would have been relegated if he had remained injured.

Elliot is exactly the sort of charismatic player that every team needs to have [:D].

The lad is a very skilful individual with the ability to change a game in an instant and he is also a real fans favourite with maverick tendencies. A DEFINITE PRIORITY SIGNING FOR US IMHO [^][^][^].

Kind regards

I would send MWH and Vincenti out on loan to local Conference teams and then I would be more than am more than happy with the rest in the first team squad at MTFC as it would stand [^].

Kind regards

Building a team around a spine of Jules, Cameron, Pearson, Cole, Durrell and Smith must be the priority next season.

Ohara may be unlikely.

Would also like too see Brice have a full pre season, and maybe Martis.

I think macc1997 probably has a realistic scenario for next season there.

I would include MWH who I think has shown enough in his appearances this season to warrant a squad place.

But of course, at the end of the day, Amar will dictate the budget, and we will have to fall in line with that.

MWH is definitely worth having around next season.

He's still improving and his all round ability makes him an effective option in a number of positions. Played very well at RCB the other week too.

It's always good to see young players progress at our club [^]

I wouldn't mind if Smith went, his negativity outweighs him, he is also not strong enough for a big man. I would even suggest he is played out of position, he actually defends well often and I would suggest he consider a positional move to the back. But I would not have him in the side, he has potential but not at this level and not in this side.

I would think SC needs to move a good number on as our squad is so big. Some our not our players:

O'Hara
Khelleher
Cole
MayXXXXXX

I might be missing someone, but the four mentioned are all on loan. There are a good number who featured in very few games for SC:

Lowe
Grimes
Taylor
Vincenti
Arthur
Mullings

They are just a few and I think all bar Vincenti of those mentioned are out of contract at the end of this season.

He definitely needs to trim the squad in terms of number, he doesn't need more than 22-24 and he will want to have free reign to get rid of and bring in who he wants. I'm expecting some substantial changes to the playing squad over the summer.

Yes the same Harry Smith who has played almost twice as much as Scott Wilson...our top scorer this season and who winged and moans his way around the field constantly blaming his team mates for his own poor positioning. They won't play him in because they know he is not good enough to cope with his role.

He may have scored fewer goals than Wilson, but he brings a lot to the team. Who would we get that is better as a target man in L2 with our finances?

Other clubs may have their eye on Wilson, Smith, Cameron, Pearson, Stephens etc.

As I said, I can't fault his defensive ability and even his ability to hold up play a bit but he is too easily beaten to the ball, too easily out headed, not aggressive enough and doesn't harass defenders and goalkeepers enough. He is a problem in terms of his appearance but he is not a bully up front like his build suggests. He is quick to blame others and so frustrated, his head goes too soon too. He is a decent player in a team which will spoon feed him but he is not right for a scrappy side scraping by at the bottom of the football pyramid. We need scrappers

Like silkmanofhat I have thought for some time that Harry Smith may make a better central defender than he does a striker. His feet are not quick enough to be an effective forward. We must get a more effective central forward for next season.

Fola - I agree with your assessment of the squad but wouldn't have commented on Maykock so harshly. He's a kid and for the majority of his appearances was playing in a very poor side. But I agree we should not be looking to sign him up

We need to get this done as soon as possible, we can not have the disjointed and frankly unacceptable preparation of last summer happen again.

Fola, I think you are pretty much spot on in your assessment. Reduces the number and allows SC to bring in a few he wants.

It's been suggested elsewhere that, like Smith, Rose made sufficient appearances to trigger a contract extension for next season.

Agree Ntambwe had c poor first half v Vale but storming second Alf after banhpg on the head, also good game v Cambridge and as said slide rule pass for goal. Worth a shot as he is a ball winning breakup type of player.

I too can see potential in ntambwe, got good presence in midfield which we've missed at times. My priority would be try and keep the defence together who were pretty solid towards the end of the season and build from there. Of course try and keep hold of Durrell, a lot need moving on though!
