Am i right if i wanted to change my allegiance?

Report Message | Email Message To A Friend | Reply To Message

Right , this is desperate but as someone who has been macc for 30+ years and seen the muppets we have running the club (AA/ blower) , i am really tempted to follow my heart and go to follow sir john.
My family are all huge stoke fans (and obviously hate the vale) but me as a proper football fan (certainly no glory hunter!) can not face going macc anymore as long as we are run by the incompetent muppets in charge. Would it be bad in football terms if we made a stand and started all going to follow a proper, honest, talented, genuine guy rather than not nowing if we had a club or not next week with the balloons we have in charge

Z.. I have some sympathy with you and have myself at times wondered about changing my loyalties. I enjoy an occasional visit to Silverlands to watch Buxton but the standard of play and now a plastic pitch put me off going more often.
At the end of the day you have to say that we are lucky having a fully professional team in Macclesfield with its population of only 55000. Moss Rose feels like a proper little football stadium and is our local team. I would stick with it and things may eventually change - hopefully for the better.
Just think we could have gone like Stockport and Altrincham.

It has to be your decision, z, but it is probably a good indication of how bad things have become when fans of 30+ years standing are actively considering moving on.

I also find it deeply depressing and disheartening the way that the club has been run for some time now.

Having said that, I couldn't really even grasp the concept of switching loyalties now. For better or worse, Macc are my team, and I really am STID. Some might say STupID as I can't really see how things will improve in the short term.

Funny u should say that zelemi myself have been tempted to watch Vale and that was even before JA went there, but I feel I'm well up 4 it now to watch some of their games..only down the line then a bus to burslem.its just that I'm like a lot of others now we'll XXXXXXed off with the goings on at the club.i as well as watching macc for nearly 50 years used to watch city but I will never go back watching them or any other premier League club as I entirely blame that for the way the game has been completely bankrolled and left the smaller clubs like Us in the XXXXXX..

That's strange but I've been thinking the same thing. It's heartbreaking to see what's happening at Macc this season. If Askey had stayed we'd have been a mid table side at least. I'm totally sick at how this club that I've followed for 18 years has been allowed to slowly die after the glory of last season. I too will be off to Vale Park to watch some league Two football next season. I can't continue to watch Macc until a new owner comes in.

Exactly Beartowner, all the hard work put in last season by JA the players volunteers and now this I find very annoying and if we go down our owner should be held responsible for all this..JA should never have been treated the way he was which obviously led to his departure..

This is madness! You either support a club for life through thick and thin or you don't! You cant change clubs just because we're having a bad time, i've never heard such nonsense in my life [rle]

I'd have gone to support Alty in 1979 when we finished bottom of the NPL if you follow this logic [:(!]

I will probably take in a few games at Vale next season as I live in Congleton. I have been supporting Macc since my late uncle dragged me along to the Macc V Bury game around 18 years ago. It was an entertaining 0-0 draw, but I was hooked. I honestly thought that the FA Trophy Final and promotion last year the owner had changed and we would go on to greater things. But no, its all been destroyed in a summer of madness last year. Allowing JA to depart was the start of it. The subsequent appointment of Yates, and then the 'celebrity' manager who to be honest is tactically inept. There's no way we will stay up, and I won't go back until AA has gone.

You should definitely go watch someone else. What kind of football fan changes their allegiance. Wow!

We don't need fans like you tbh.

You support the Club (not the individuals).

"Follow your heart" (my god!). Go watch JA. We'd rather have 500 loyal fans at a game than likes of you.

Astonishing, playground stuff really, but always fun to hear different riffs on the "I love the club too much to support it" line...

I think we now know who'd be jostling to be first onto the Titanic lifeboats wearing hurriedly donned drag.[:X]

Maybe there is a perfect club out there where owners, management, players and fans walk around in togas feasting on the finest offerings on and off the pitch and work and play together in love, understanding & harmony. [8D]

In the meantime, maybe stop whining and just get behind your team like the rest of us? [8D]

All in All this all boils down to the rediculas decision made by the owner over the London Rd the more annoying thing is is this a ploy to get nore fans to but season tickets next season or does he want more fans to pay 22 quid and go and sit in the moss lane stand either way it wont happen i for one will not buy a season ticket because i work some saturdays and im defo not paying that rediculas price to sit down anywhere..

There is an article in todays Sunday Mirror by Andy Dunne about football fans . A paragraph states "You support a club, you take the rough with the smooth, the good times with the bad.
I think that this it true but wonder how long it would be that the posters on here who are thinking of defecting would stay at the new club of choice if that club hit rough and bad times.

To be honest, the direct answer to your question is....... itís neither right or wrong. You follow whoever you choose to.

Itís not up to anyone else to decide that for you?

Should you really keep spending both time and money in something you have fallen out of love with for whatever reason????? Probably not!

This Ďlifelong dedicated fan, come what mayí attitude is nonsense. Just because someone started following one team at some point doesnít mean that they are signed up for life?????

It's not about relegation for me, it's the way the club is run. Shutting down a terrace when the club should be offering incentives to pack the Moss out is the latest debacle. Couple this with the way JA was treated last summer. Macc council did more to honour him than Blower and AA. John has now saved Vale and I hope he gets the job permanently. I can't forgive those two and won't go back while they are in charge, sorry.

Smurf has gone, mark my words!
Sir john could not have worked for two worst people in football in aa/blower and smurf but has (again!) shown his true colours, dug his heels in and got on with the job in hand whilst the folk that are supposed to pay his and the players wages (when the money gets filtered down or not!) get treated with utter contempt ! But when season tickets for the following season go up for sale we are apparently legends and the best thing macc have!!

Interesting thread. EVERYONE has breaking point, for some it is quicker to get to than others. I, for one, fully understand the initial post. Although to actually go and support another team with immediate effect will not happen. This is a process. You give up on your team, for one reason or another, but still what that live footie fix. so you choose a team to go and watch. Usually something local. Then over a period of time, if you enjoy the situation you now find yourself in, you find yourself with your new attachment. You will occasionally check the results of your previous team, you will enjoy them winning, feel saddened when they loose, although nowhere near as much but most of all be relieved that you've made the right decision and made the break when you did. Once people leave, it's almost impossible to get them back as they have left because of the reason they did and they will find it VERY VERY difficult to get over that to rejoin the flock.
Do not criticize them for they have done, it is not their fault. That is down to the club they once loved.

What price allegiance, then? Change it once or half a dozen times? If you change it once, you have established the principle, and after that it's just a matter of degree.

Even if Amar appointed Idi Amin, Pol Pot and Joe Stalin as directors, and ran the club into the ground, I would still be a Macc fan.

Remember as a kid/young adult , the guys who changed allegiance every year or so , depending entirely who was successful at the time. They were often ridiculed by everyone else. "Who are you supporting this year,Joe ?".
Of course, we're talking about the big clubs here , but the principle's the same. If you're going to jump ship because of one bad season , you'd better go to Old Trafford/ Etihad etc. Port Vale ? You're in for more disappointment, mate.

Dobby - totally true.

I share the disillusionment over recent decison-making at the club. Closing swathes of London road is ludicrous and indefensible. Guaranteed to inflame the antipathy that has been claimed as the reason for it. And how can the match be more enjoyable viewed over empty silent stretches of terrace? The most provocative & disrespectful behaviour I've ever seen there has been opposition officials celebrating away goals.

Having to queue at the SLE to get into the LR paddock to then queue in Butch's bar to get a bottle at half time is also f***ing ridiculous. Time for management to gracefully back down and say that the experiment has been tried and we are reverting to the previous system.

So .... for now I preload & get my beers down outside of the ground before ko. The idea of chucking toys out of pram and boycotting or going on some daft march .... mehhh.

You always have to take the rough with the smooth and that means getting behind the lads on the pitch, regardless.
