... beat Aldershot this evening 3-0 at the Hampshire club's romantically named stadium, The Electrical Services Stadium.

This puts the Moors two points clear at the top of the National League, although second placed Orient have a game in hand.

Anyone think we might have done better at the start of the season with Tim Flowers as our gaffer?

Yes most likely. But we build for next season and I think we have a strong manager in Sol who can shape us into a force by using his skills and contacts off the field.

Have we not already been stung by appointing a promising looking manager from Solihull Moors who had strung a few decent results together with them?

Nathan Blisset grabbed a hat-trick in this game! Tim Flowers seems to be getting the best out of him and other players while operating on a small budget and has done well with his own recruitment. All pretty impressive and far from being clueless and tactically inept!

We'd have done better with Donald Duck as manager as long s he wasn't briefed by Blower.[;)]

Interesting. but when Yates was appointed practically everyone said what a good appointment, based on his success last season in saving Solihull when they looked doomed .

Although there has been a lot of talk in recent years that the gap between league and non-league is narrowing, I would venture to suggest that anyone who has attended our games this season and last would probably agree that the gulf is still fairly sizeable.

I was happy to give Mr Yates a fair crack of the whip upon his appointment, but 13 games without a win (more than 1/3 of the season) was definitely too much IMHO.

Yes in hindsight we took the wrong man from Solihull. The brains behind Moors unlikely achievements of last season and this (they're in the semis of the trophy too), seems to be Tim Flowers. Looking at their remaining fixtures, I wouldn't back against the midlanders for the title!

I think you're right LancsMacc. Maybe Solihull being saved from relegation last season wasn't down to Yates at all, maybe he was mistakenly given the credit for Tim Flowers' achievements.

I recall a similar mistake being made when some thought Macc's success had been down to Paul Ince!

Nah! It was Ray Mathias for me.
He did all the post-match interviews - unless there was a TV camera there for Ince to appear in front of.
