Crewe Controversy (One of many)

Report Message | Email Message To A Friend | Reply To Message

Certain sections of the Crewe fanbase have expressed the opinion that referee Geoff Eltringham (Altringham?) favoured Macc in the added-on-time department after the expiry of the regulation 90 minutes.

I decided to take a peek at the iFollow broadcast which has the match clock displayed.

After 90 minutes the fourth official indicated a minimum of 5 minutes added on time.

94.18 Crewe score their 3rd goal. Ergo 42 seconds left for Macc to equalise.

Crewe celebrate etc. including at least one fan on the pitch and an assortment of pyrotechnics.

95.33 Macc kick off

96.11 Macc score, i.e. after 38 seconds of play.

Macc team and fans celebrate, Crewe fans (some of them) riot.

98.32 Crewe restart with kick off

98.36 Ref blows final whistle.

So in total there were exactly 5 minutes of added on time with a total of 42 seconds play between the Crewe goal and the final whistle.

No Fergie Time yesterday!

Good analysis, Ron. The Crewe players were upset by our second goal but, from behind the goal where I stood, my impression was that the keeper took the ball over the line himself before any attention from Cameron.Watching the highlights seems to confirm that.

Cameron didnít touch their keeper- the one Crewe player that had a birds eye view of it was the only Crewe player not to call foul.

I was in the White Lion pre game and they were chanting pretty disgusting songs at the united game (Munich and airplanes). Scumbags the lot of them!
