We have already, heroically, exceeded my expectations going into the tournament, and I am certainly not counting any chickens here, but if England can rise to the challenge and win on Wednesday, who would you like them to face? France or Belgium?

It's a tricky one for me, I think France probably have more quality players, but a more brittle temperament and are less disciplined than the Belgians.

The Belgians mostly play in England and we are more used to them. It would just be like any Saturday (or Sunday or Monday) back home.

England had a world class midfielder like the Croatians did [:O]. No complaints as the best side won over 120 minutes and I genuinely feel we will never have had a better chance of making a World Cup final than we did tonight!

The likes of Kane & Alli simply didn't turn up and that same old feeling of deja vu is there once agian [rle].

Kind regards

I've got to agree PB, the better side on the night are going through to the final. Too many England passes went astray and the Croation central defenders had little difficulty keeping us at bay.

If ....we had put away our chances and gone in 3-0 up at half time it would have been a different story.

But we didn't and we were outclassed for the next 75 minutes [|)].

I really wish I could be more positive but IMHO we bottled it, and a lot of our big name players just 'went missing' when we really needed them [sad].

Kind regards

PB [smi].

Completely agree with PB here. (It happens! [:P])

Too many good chances missed early on, and the experienced Croatians ground us down with superior passing and movement as the game progressed.

Right result on the night. [|)]

In our last 4 games we scored one penalty, one direst free kick and 2 from corners. None from open play.

I'm not keen on this 'we weren't much good' assessment of the competition.

Everything's relative. A few weeks back nobody gave us a cat in hell's chance of doing anything. We've played a new system, integrated new players and developed it all in the heat of competition.

We beat Africa's top ranked side, walloped Panama (how many times have we failed in such matches), edged a 50/50 Vs a very decent Colombia side and comfortably outplayed a Sweden side who won Germany's group & qualified ahead of Italy and Holland.

Last night we needed to blast them out really. I thought it was obvious beforehand that we either overwhelmed them, or else they'd probably control it and chip away at us (their midfield is genuinely world class). Actually, we came reasonably close via that first half performance - another goal and they'd really have had problems. As it was, they figured things out tactically (sign of a very experienced side) and began to dominate things. We didn't really have much of a plan b but that's not, perhaps, surprising given the relative freshness of the squad.

They've given us some good games to watch, the opportunity of some bonus BBQs with friends and, eventually, lost to a very good side. I'm delighted with the best summer of football in years.

I hope Southgate is able to continue to take us forward and that some of our promising age group players fulfill their potential. If that happens, I think we can look forward to some decent stuff.

And LV, Dele Alli scored from open play against Sweden.
