The EFL website describes the Checkatrade trophy as 'a flagging competition'.

Must admit it's one I can't get overly excited about given that we have L2, the FA Cup and the League (Carabao) Cup to contend.

It is the sort of competition where it only gets interesting if you reach the latter stages.

But, in the meantime, it will mean extra grinding games for the fairly minimal squad that we are likely to end up with. I think it might risk dissipating our efforts next season.

The group stages of this competition in the last 2 seasons have been boycotted by fans of all the clubs in protest at the premier league u21 teams being allowed to enter. Attendances for the group games were less then 200 in some cases.

Will never watch Macc play a B team. Itís totaly disrespectful. B teams only in because premier league paid a million £ to keep the competition going which was split between all L1 and 2 teams.

Assume these matches aren't covered by season tickets ? Which will automatically slash the attendance - don't think folk mind paying extra for a league cup or fa cup game, but not for these fixtures , in the main.
