That makes 13 signed , so with 2 keepers that leaves room for about 7 others .

Looks very young so could develop into a good prospect. The other lad speaks well and has good experience.

The new manager obviously thinks he is a prospect, but it can be a difficult task guiding a prolific scorer at lower levels to success 2 divisions higher. Certainly in the short term.

I think MY will need to bring in a proven and experienced L2 striker as insurance, while he works on the 'Ben Stephens project'.

STRATFORD Town midfielder Will Grocott insists “anything is possible” for Ben Stephens after the forward was targeted by two Football League clubs inside a week.

Stephens’ electric form this season has alerted a number of clubs, with Coventry City the latest to declare an interest in the 20-year-old.

Town’s top scorer trained with the EFL League Two side on Thursday and Friday, while he is also set for a two-day trial with Championship outfit Ipswich Town next week.

Current Town player of the year Grocott, who is a close friend of Stephens, said he would be surprised if Coventry or Ipswich did not attempt to sign the player.

“I’m not surprised by the interest in him,” said Grocott, who was also a team-mate with Stephens at Kettering Town.

“Everyone knows he has all the ability in the world. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t get a deal now.

“It’ll obviously be a massive shame if we lose him, but this is a fantastic opportunity for him. Anything is possible.

“Carl (Adams, manager) has shown he is keen for players to push on and all of this is good for Stratford. It shows the club gives young players the opportunity and the platform to progress.”

Stephens has bagged 17 goals in 32 starts for Town this season, but Grocott says it’s his overall game which is proving appealing to the bigger clubs.

“The thing with Ben is, he isn’t just a goalscorer, he’s technically one of the best players I’ve ever played with,” he added.

“What Ben’s got that makes him stand out is he wins so many headers and I think he’s smaller than me!”

“Technically he is very, very gifted and I think he has a great chance of moving on, whether it’s with Coventry or Ipswich, I am sure someone will come in and take him.

“He’s one that a lot of people have missed and someone who is going to go on to good things.

“At our level, and I can only judge him at our level, he’s a special player and he’s creating a big name for himself at the moment. And with Coventry just on his doorstep I think it’s wise for them to have a look at him.”

Looks like he has great potential, but we probably need to keep some perspective and see how he goes.

I have (dim) memories of us signing Frank Mottram in the 1990s. He had scored shedloads of goals in the Welsh League, but he was a flop with us.

Ben showed several glimpses of his potential last night, and MMHO he will come up against better footballers this season, who are likely to be far more uncompromising and intimidating than what he faced previously.

I think with the improved fitness and training opportunities that he will have this year, he could well prove to be a bit of a gem for us in the future as he bulks up a bit [^][:D].

Kind regards

Really hope this guy gets a run of games. Scored a sh*tload last season and had trials at Championship sides.

Maybe the man to change our season under Whit's new passing style of play?

Give the lad a chance. He came on against Tranmere ahead of Smith so I would think Whit is going to give him a chance.

"One player that could start in that game is Ben Stephens after he finally returned from injury in the 1-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers on Friday and Howarth has praised the midfielder for his efforts.

“He’s a talented player. He’s got a lot of work to do, he’s had a couple of injuries and I think he’s found adapting to full time football a little difficult but he’s there now. He’s back fit and he’s had a good couple of weeks. It was a big ask for a young kid to come on and try to get the equalising goal, but he’s doing the right things in training - as have the rest of the lads as well.”

If he can cross a ball we should try him out wide. Desperately need someone who can cross a ball until our first choice wingers are fit.

Revelation. Apart from the passes he made ran 50 yards to tackle back when we had lost the ball. And won the penalty so I see from the highlights. Did we hit the bar from six yards wasn't on highlights?

Callum M won the ball out near the corner flag, beat two defenders and pulled the ball back to Bliss whose shot was blocked by a defender - I don't think it actually hit the bar. Thinking back, we could quite easily have scored more goals.
