Danny Whitaker our new boss!

Why the heck not? [^]

I think it would be fab to have another Silkmen legend leading our club forward. Danny is a mighty fine footballer who is popular with his peers; and has the sort of rapport with the fans that means that they will stick with the team even when the going is VERY tough [8D].

I would go as far to say why not bring in another Silkmen legend Stevie Burr as his right hand man to give that 'wise old head' support? [:D]

What Danny also possesses is that very amiable and approachable persona, and he is very well liked by the fan base young and old. I have always felt that we haven't offered enough presence in the town and to get Danny and others in around the local community could assist in the development of the Cowley effect which has been so effective at Lincoln [^][^].

Give me this approach any day as opposed to journeymen managers who will waddle from one lower league role to another aka Curle & co.

Kindest regards

PB [smi].

Couldnít agree more. You want someone in charge who wants the club to do well and not to just earn a pay check. Danny hasnít got long left so this could be the perfect way to start his managerial career. If things donít go to plan, get someone else in and make him assistant.

Not convinced by this although I'd obviously support him were he to get it. Very tough moving from being 'one of the lads' into management and I get the sense that Danny very much is one of them.

If it were to be a current player, Pilkington sticks out to me. I think he's more likely to have that bit of gravitas and authority which would allow him to step up and call the shots.

Good players don't always make good managers. Great player but I am not convinced on Whit as "The Boss." Pilks maybe but even then previous experience in our situation would be preferable.

I completely understand the comments regarding Pilks, so why not a joint management team of Pilks & Danny where both could remain on the playing staff as required? [^][:D].

I still feel we desperately a more visible presence around the town, and IMHO Danny would be fulfil this role more comfortably than Pilks who is a fab bloke but generally more reserved than Danny![8D].

Kindest regards

I am aware of that Sandow, but I am sure he would relish some sort of managerial opportunity at his beloved MTFC if the chance came [;)][:D].

Danny would be a popular choice and would get the full backing of the fans, but I still feel that he needs to work as a No2 first. I would like to see Watson back and have Danny as his No2, the reason for Watson is that he knows the club, and has contacts given his career at a higher level, which could be invaluable given the short space of time we have to assemble a squad to take on Div 2.
I do feel regardless that we need a manager who can come in and hit the ground running, I would hate o see Danny suffer the same fate as JA did in his first spell as manager at Macc.

Some might see this as a dream appointment, and I can understand the sentiment after the fantastic service that Danny has given us. But the clue is probably in the word 'dream'.

Danny must now be in the twilight of his magnificent playing career, but I have never seen him quoted as having any ambition whatsoever to move into management.

I would be more than happy if he went into some sort of coaching role. His vast experience and knowledge of the game would be invaluable for young players.

But we have to be pragmatic. What will be best for MTFC as we stand on the brink of a historic return to the EFL?

TBH I just don't see it as appointing a manager with zero experience of being in charge in the unforgiving environment of league football.

I would be happy to see Danny as an assistant manager to an experienced manager - but no way should he be thrown straight into the role of manager . It is going to be difficult for whoever gets the job .

Has Danny got the required pro licence to manage a club ?
Personally I would like him to cut his teeth alongside a more experienced manager(not Burr) if it was to happen.

Agree with Smokey 2. It is a huge jump from player to full-blown manager. It would be a waste of his on-the-pitch enthusiasm, ball skills and quick thinking to nail him to a desk all week doing deals. The manger's job is a lot more than just standing on the touch line on match days.
Assistant to an experienced person, certainly. I think DW has huge potential in this area but it could be ruined if the job was just dumped on him with no support or guidance..

Fola, this would limit potential sponsorship deals - can't see the likes of Head & Shoulders being interested...[8][smi]
