... is the favourite to land the coveted Macc hotseat for the forthcoming League 2 campaign, but what is his Macc connection?

According to Soccerbase SD was on Macc's books from 19th July 2000 to 1st August 2000 and played no games in that period.

Anyone remember his time at the Moss?

What did Macc do to make him want to leave? Or what did SD do to want Macc to get rid?

Peter Davenport was the gaffer at the time, but even so it seems a bit bizarre.

I was wondering this too, as Wikipedia mentions his time at Macc. Was he on trial or training with us that pre-season perhaps? I have no memory of him being at Macc.

Seems to have a pretty abysmal managerial record .Why on earth would he be a good choice ?

No doubt we will be going for cheap rather than inspiring.

At the moment I’m thinking we’re highly likely to be relegated next season, so we may as well go for someone who may still be on the way up rather than looking like they’re on the way down.

"has he ever been in the prem"

Yes and no.

He was on Barnsley's books when they were in the Premier League but was loaned out and never played a Premier League encounter.

And the Macc legend of less than two weeks in 2000 is now 6/4 with both SkyBet and BetVictor.

His managerial career at Crewe and Orient reads...

P294 W90 D76 L128 30.61% success

Hmmm.

I didn't know much about him, so had a look at his record. Orient record was bad. Started well with 5 wins in the first 8. Then he went another 15 games with no wins.

Similar to how his time at Crewe ended - with a run of two wins in 17 games.

The season before that - 15/16 - his Crewe side were relegated from League One. That season ended with a run of one win in 17 games.

Before that, 14/15, Crewe escaped relegation on the final day.

Before that, 13/14, Crewe also escaped relegation on the final day of the season.

His first two seasons at Crewe had been good, winning promotion and then the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Once they sold some key players he'd inherited - Ashley Westwood, Nick Powell etc - the club went downhill.

If there's any mitigation, he'll have had a low budget at Crewe, and picked up a difficult task at newly relegated Leyton Orient.

But it looks a lot like he can't turn things around when bad form sets in. Worryingly his teams seem to start well and then it goes bad 10 games in.

Crewe are famously patient with managers and I think anywhere else he'd have been sacked three or four times over with that record.

On the positive side, he's supposed to be good with young players and likes his sides to play passing football.

His record doesn't scream 'winner' though, and he doesn't seem like someone you'd bring in to a fairly messed up club to rebuild from scratch.

Trying to be balanced here... I'd probably rather see someone else in the hot seat though.

Most of the time he was doing well to keep Crewe in League One. He had done well with Nantwich before that and showed loyalty as both a player and a manager.

Fair point - from 2004-2009 he led Nantwich to two promotions in three seasons, and an FA Vase title. Almost got them to the Conference North.

This is quite a while ago though. All depends how much emphasis you put on recent success. No one's talking about Steve Burr this time around, for example. He was good too, until about 2014.

Whoever we get, I'd want it to be someone who knows how to win, perhaps more important than experience at any certain league level. We're pretty screwed either way next season and at this point I hate the thought of us going for someone happy to finish 19th every year.
