XXXXXX hell here we go again. They are a league 1 club who would be taking a hell of a gamble appointing Askey who hasn't even managed in the EFL as yet. There are plenty of experienced managers being linked with the job, like Uwe Rossler and Jimmy Floyd H.

TBH I don't think anyone could blame JA if he did decide the time was right to move on and further his career.

You could argue that he would always have a job here, but I think that his massive achievements, with significantly less than wholehearted backing from those who hold the purse strings, has written a whole new definition for the word 'loyalty'.

Maybe these persistent links and associations with other clubs will finally make the hierarchy start to value and appreciate their excellent manager.

Betting suspended today with Askey having moved up to favourite. If nothing else, he mustíve set some sort of record for bookies suspending betting on him taking a job somewhere else.

If John does go to Shrewsbury he will most definitely take the best wishes of PB with him [^].

The bloke is a Silkmen legend on and off the field and he will ALWAYS be warmly greeetd by yours truly whenever our paths collide should fate decide that this be the case [8D].

Kindest regards

PB [smi]

I hope it isn't true, [V] but if it is, then, in the words of the Bard, 'If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well. It were done quickly'.

Both Shrews and Silkmen will need time to prepare for their respective campaigns under new stewardship, if that is what transpires.

Obviously it'd be disappointing for us but what a brilliant move for JA if it's true. Would most likely double his wages and a side who may very well be pushing for the Championship- crazy when you think he only got the job as a "cheap option". He's done his job here and got us out of the Non league- I wish him all the best.

Shrewsbury Ďare ready to start talksí with Askey according to their local press this morning. So not a done deal yet.

I donít think any of us can begrudge Sir John a move up. Especially to a club where the wages are paid on time. Nobody deserves it more.

If he goes, Itíll be interesting to see what preparation our owener and chairman have made in terms of finding our next manager. Shrewsbury, for example, anticipated Paul Hursts departure to Ipswich and obviously have a couple of candidates in mind to succeed him in Askey and David Hopkin. They know the type of manager they want.

It will be no surprise to anyone when Sir John leaves. Itís a case of when, not if. I wonder what Mr Blower and Mr Alkadhi think.

Well if (when?) John goes at least his successor will have 5 players signed , which is 2 more than JA started with at this stage last season .

The problem with that may be that they won't necessarily be the 5 players that the new manager might want.

Good luck to him if he goes - he deserves a chance at a bigger club. I suppose the worry now will be finding a suitable replacement. There will be plenty of applicants ( there always are ) but the owner's track record of appointments is not great. Anyone got any suggestions , because I'm struggling to come up with a good fit for us.

Maybe Amar and Blower have made it clear to John they wonít mind if he goes . If so they may have a replacement in mind ( Steve Watson ? )

Steve Watson could be a good shout. There's issues at Gateshead too so he could be interested in a move back here.

How about a friendly against Shrewsbury in July It would draw a big crowd and allow Macc. fans to give John a good send off.

The little chap with a beard is an agent and Nick Bianchi is JA's mate - If I was going for a meet the press interview like that and my mate offered to come, I'd be happy to let him. Especially as they were out together last night

Well they didnít really help him . Johnís interview wasnít particularly gracious - in situations like this it is usual to finish with a brief word thanking the fans of the old club for their support - but that didnít mention Macc .

Which would be news if he had played any football under Hurst last year; Dean Henderson, on loan from Man Utd, played in goal most of the year...
