Inclined to agree. Whitehead was one of our most influential players last season, IMHO. He will be a massive miss next time.

Salford have an agenda of successive promotions, and the backing to finance it.

Why should we be surprised? Life isn't fair, and the world of football finances certainly isn't.

Why wouldn't Danny Whitehead, or any other player, get the best deal he possibly can to look after himself and his family?

Quote from a poster on One Football Forum:

"Salford are paying Whitehead a mere EIGHT times what we were paying him last season and over double what he was paid at Wigan. Heís a good player, but thatís sheer lunacy in financial terms - he would have signed for Salford for less than half the money theyíve given him!"

He's good but not sure he's £2500 per week good. Plus he played for Sir John, the utmost professional who as we know gets the best out of players, will that be the case at Salford?
Agree he has done the right thing for himself and family, but Sir John will seek out another diamond and mold him into a replacement for Whitehead. We knew this would happen anyway

Happens every season, fact of life at any level of the game. Would any of us not move jobs for double, triple, quadruple or whatever multiple of your current salary? Course you would. Even if it goes wrong he earns more in a year than he would in several with us. And we'll have him back anytime.

In the absence of a (joint) management team, if true, I assume this has been negotiated by the Director of Football?

This structure / arrangement may not appeal to all prospective managers, especially those in the lower levels of football, who are not as familiar with this concept as say those in the Premier League...

They are the pits in football terms a load of mercenary toe rags being paid by has beens who should be sunning themselves rather than wrecking the game at our level. Those ex higher League players used to play down the leagues and put something back into the game other than what amounts to pin money for the modern over earners.

Who could blame Danny for such an opportunity if it were to be true? The only negative for him would be that he would be joining a team which is clearly aspiring to be the new Forest Green Rovers but without the vegan principles!

Kindest regards

I would have loved Danny to stay but football is a mercenary business as well as a short career [:O].

All the very best Danny and many thanks for all you did at MTFC [8D].

Kindest regards

The OS is an embarrassment. We're meant to be a professional club! One of our title winning squad has just left and nothing on the site still. Social media/website needs to be up to date and consistent- we're in the age of technology- sort it out MTFC, it's the same story every year [:P] We've probably signed a few players up now, just the OS can't be XXXXXXd to tell us [:P][V][V][V][V][V]

And before people go on about it's run by volunteers, it doesn't take long to post an article. They have posted one about room hire...

But yeah, back on the topic. Gutted to lose Whitehead. He owes JA a lot- not good enough and Cheltenham and Wigan and JA has now got him his big payday. All the best to the lad.

The 'room hire' piece doesn't require any real human intervention, just press the repeat button for something already created. We've seen it a dozen times before.

I don't blame DW for seizing his chance now it has arisen. Loyalty is all very laudable, but it never paid the mortgage, the gas bill, or bought the kids new clothes. Why wouldn't he take a better deal?

I think he was instrumental at crucial moments this season in winning the title for us.

The fact that we are unable to hang on to him is our problem, not his.

Was a bit surprised when he didn't make the grade at Wigan or Cheltenham. Perhaps he just knows his level.

Some 20 years ago I left Sainsburys, got an offer from Lidl ( unknown at the time ) doubled my money, no brainier. Left Lidl 16 years later, love the both of them but now not bothered how much I earn now, but I miss my Sainsburys memories and would go back but I donít know anyone anymore! Good luck Danny, there was no element of doubt you gave it your best on the pitch, gutted to see you go but Sainsburys will always be open for your custom should you choose to return!
