It is great to see the 50 volunteers officially recognised with a replica shirt produced by the new kit sponsors Macron. As we move back into the League it will be even more important that every pound saved or earned through the work of volunteers is reflected in an increased budget for John in his difficult task ahead. In winning the National League the work of the volunteers gave the Silkmen a unique advantage. We all owe them a special thanks. ![]()

I'm not sure about 'unique', WillMill. This really isn't intended to be a negative posting about the sterling work that our vols do, week in, week out on behalf of MTFC. Their recognition by the club is more than deserved, but it doesn't make them unique. There will be some who say, 'Who cares what the others do', but, just in the interest of fairness, I would be very surprised if other NL clubs didn't have dedicated volunteers supporting their day to day running as well.

It's not a word I use lightly but I can't think of any other NL club with 50 volunteers regularly putting effort in which goes, largely, unseen. As a further example, I think Gary Lewis was genuinely surprised at the level of volunteer support he could rely on. Those who gave him support ensured that, unlike some other teams, we stopped a fixture build up. As Gary said as he was leaving “But I couldn’t have done anything without the volunteers who have turned up at all hours to help me! I really am so grateful. ” A highlight for me was seeing Santa clearing the lines in the Wrexham match. In seventy years watching football that, for me, was a first. ![]()
