Many years ago i regularly watched and commented on here.

I always said Macclesfield needed to be relegated to bring back the good times. Years of fighting relegation wasn't any good for anyone.

Well 6 years in the national league pulling more than there weight and finally winning the league with ease. I have to ask was it worth being relegated?

Anyway congratulations to all at the club and long may the success carry on.

Indeed, and if Macc can get relegated next season then we can come back even stronger in the season after that.

Relegation makes sense, donít battle against it, thatís the lesson weíve all been taught.

Battle against it yes but not year after year after year. Young fans will not be very interested in watching a losing team.

I may well attend a few matches as my son is at an age where he will hopefully enjoy it and he has little option but to support Macclesfield!

Welcome back Pete, Iím sure the club would appreciate your support now weíre back in the FL. I do hope the team they continue to win for you, but if they donít, thereís always City down the road to go and grab some glory, Iíd latch onto that personally if thatís your motivation. I shall however enjoy watching the club I was born to, win, loose or Draw and can roll with the highs and lows, the anticipation, the mitigation and the down right frustration......some were chosen

Still a lovely place to post i see. I certainly didn't stop going because they were relegated i stopped long before due to life changes and to be fair being sick of the long relegation battle. The club were relegated a couple of weeks after my son was born and no toddler likes 90 minutes of football. But then if people don't want previous regular fans back then so be it.

Please remember though don't moan when the club only get 1500 fans that more should be watching. It certainly doesn't make for a family friendly club.

County and Alty should be battling it out for the Champions League before we know it if relegation is the barometer of success!

I get what you're saying Pete, but no relegation was never worth it - we nearly lost out club completely!!

Maybe we should aim for delegation next season and have a big party when we achieve it. I think the parachute payment from the Football League in the first season back in the National League is 100% so we could have a decent budget for the season after next with a prompt relegation!

That's an omen...the predictive text changed my relegation to delegation. What does that mean?

What a shame that people choose to turn my congratulatory post into a dig. At the time Macclesfield did to be relegated to rebuild the club had financial hardship due to being poorly run at the time. The King era followed relegation with money sent willy nilly so the club maybe if run as it is now could have been far better off.

I dont believe the club need relegating next season and haven't said that so please read the posts before commenting.

Unless it is a relegation battle, in which case Macc should capitulate, IMHO.

I really donít know what you expected Petemacc, to be welcomed back into the fold with open arms? Your supposed congratulatory post was in my opinion a poor attempt at ďI told you so.Ē

I'm actually devastated.

I was hoping for another couple of relegations such that we could've really handed out some full on wallopings every week...

Macclesfield Town 9 : 0 Prescot Cables

Macc Saints U13s 1 : 26 Macclesfield Town

Alderley Edge Walking Football Club 0 : MTFC 17

Then we'd be really buzzing.

Pete, I'm 42, left Macc some 25 years ago, live an hours drive away, work about 55 hours a week and have my first child who is now 11 months old. Work comes first, family & friends second, and MTFC 3rd. I juggle all of them and love them all, for better or worse, I don't make excuses or defend any of them when they let you down, you just give them your best and continue to love them. I'm not in a click and know no other poster on here (btw as they don't meet criteria 1-3) but your opinion is different and I respect that and as I said your new cash would surely be welcomed as a returning supporter for the games you can now go to and your analysis of the performances would be very much valued as I cannot and will not be able to go to all the games next season as in many seasons gone by so for me this can be a great un rose tinted, honest, opinionated forum, if unregulated fans dare post that is!

Petemacc: It has been a long time since we spoke and I warmly welcome you back to the fold good sir [^].

The football under John is infinitely better than the dark days of hoof ball, and anyone who comes to the Moss Rose whether it be for just one game a season or every home game is alright by me [8D].

Kindest regards

PB [smi].

Peter. I thought about your old posts and it's an interesting debate.

On the face of it we are probably slightly more sustainable now than what we were. But that feels like it's far more down to luck than judgement. Will we still be sustainable in 5 years? Probably not given the usual comings, goings and u-turns you see in football.

But could what has happened this year have been forseen? Almost certainly not. In lots of ways we are incredibly lucky to be back in the football league, we could have easily gone the other way. Fortunately we had John who built a fantastic team with the right mentality.

Ultimately, with the benefit of hindsight, of course I'd swap 6 seasons of dicking around at the bottom of League 2 for the season we've just had!

Hope you can make it to some games next season Petemacc

Are those times about to start again? I hope not, but then again I'd prefer to be in the bottom half of league two than scrapping about in the top half of The National League.

Being able to say the Macclesfield Town are a football league team is a damned sight better than an opologetic muttering that they are a NON league team. Try it with yourself in the mirror! [:D]

Ask fans of the likes of Stockport, York , Wrexham , Aldershot etc if they would prefer to be non league or scrabbling around at the bottom half of Division 2, I think I know the answer.
