Leaving Staylbridge at the end of the season. Coming in as JA's number 2?

I think this is speculation and putting two and two together.

From his tweets and his interview with The Star Lane site earlier in the season, Steve clearly has a lot of affection for Macc and for John, and he tweeted the other day:
"My Old strike partner should be given the freedom of Macclesfield. Arise Sir John. What an incredible season @thesilkmen. Congratulations to everyone that made it possible. #champions.".

Unfortunately things haven't worked out for him on his return to Stalybridge. Whilst expecting to challenge with Alty to secure promotion back to National League North, they've spent much of the season mired in a relegation battle.

Had it not been for the restructure of the non-League pyramid this coming summer, meaning only 1 team is relegated from the NPL Premier this year, they may well indeed have been relegated again.

Rae Ingram and the backroom staff seem to have ably stepped in / stepped up to fill the breach when Steve Watson departed, and I wonder if Steve would see a step down to a 'number two' / assistant role as the right move for him at this time in his career?

In view of this it may be that Steve's chance at Macc came and went when he was, somewhat bizarrely, overlooked in favour of the one that has just relegated Whitehawk from the National League South. [rle]

Not much to choose between the two Steves (Burr and King) this season. One will end up guiding a team to about 22nd place in the Northern Premier League, the other achieving 21st place in the National League South.

When King took over at Whitehawk they had 2 points from 11 games so a near impossible task.
