Finances for Football League

It occurred to me that if (when) we get promoted to League Two we may have to pass some kind of financial test to be admitted to the Football League. Will the financial stability of the club be sufficient for us to take up our place? We only just were allowed to continue in the National League a couple of seasons ago with a last minute injection of cash. Will AA be able to convince the Football League that we will be viable and will he have to show some kind of financial bond or guarantee?

It also makes the club much more attractive to potential investors.

Plus with the likes of Messrs Bianchi and Scott spending a lot of time around the club presently, who knows what the future holds?

Rumours going about that Nick Bianchi is pulling out of the sponsorship of the club at the end of the season. Troubling times ahead.

I do think Nick Bianchi has fallen in love with the club. You should see him at away days. Proper gets into it and stands wth the supporters. I think he would love to be a sponsor in league two.

You can watch the video of Whiteheadís goal at woking and bianchi is going mental at the front and even puts his foot on the hoarding as if heís considering running into the pitch. He and Andy Scott also took the players out for a meal the day after they werenít paid on time. He loves the club.

The timing of this post is ridiculous. Lets get the job done on the pitch and the rest will follow.

Iím sure the Bianchis are loving the Clubís TV and media exposure and would see it as good business to maintain their relationship with the club in the future should we go up.

There are also benefits for a profitable company (i.e Arighi Bianci?) becoming more involved with the club either through sponsorship or ownership in that any tax owing on the profitable Company can be offset against the linked non- profitable Company I.e Macc Town . If you make £1million losses on Company B you can pass that loss to Company A who have made a million profit and effectively reduce your tax burden. Simples!

I don't see this post as 'doom and gloom', any more than I see posts about how people might celebrate when we are champions as 'happy clapping', as we haven't achieved the title yet.

It's just raising a valid point for discussion. Isn't that why the forums are here?

Quite right Macchiavelli. If you donít like the topic donít read it, if youíve read and donít like, then donít comment on it.

If we donít have a mix of topics, then all we will talk about is coach trips cancelled through lack of support, Denny Johnstone and Scotch footie.

Hopefully a striker that Macc will sign next season, provided always that Macc's dire financial predicament allows for such a luxury.

And the league table looks very different today

Far above the world

This thread has gone off piste. It is supposed to be asking the question about whether the club's finances are in good enough order for us to be accepted in to the Football League. No one on here, including me, seems to know the criteria and whether we will be able to meet them. I assume Mark Blower and AA know?

What will our squad budget be for next season does anyone think? It will surely be £500,000 larger than this season at least.

What extra bunce do we get courtesy of the lads at the EFL?

I'm guessing the TV money must be reasonably substantial given the megabucks EPL deal, even allowing for the fact it's still only a few crumbs from the table.

Believe the playing budget was around a mill when we were in Lge 2 so must be similar to compete.

The League 2 share of the TV money was about £800,000 a season a couple of years ago, whilst the National league figure was less than 1/10 of that. Hopefully most if not all of that additional revenue can be spent on the squad.

The thing is we also have to play by the EFL's financial fair play rules which despite us having more coming in, means we can only spend a certain % of it so not everything can just be thrown at increasing the playing budget.

Excellent home attendances for the last couple of game and I would expect again this weekend should not have done the clubs finances any harm.

We were getting around 1200 - 1300 attendances earlier in the season. The last two have both been around 3000. Same again, if not more this Saturday I would hope.

If financial fair play restricts it all being spent on the playing squad, they could get a scoreboard that works with some of it.

I for 1 are glad there are some FFP rulings, this is to enure clubs dont get overdrawn if you like and parachute payments are made again to protect clubs who may have offered 2 year EFL type contracts but find themselves in the NL. It is designed to protect clubs so iím up for it......Iím sure SJA can rustle a few bargain gems again rather than overpaid lazy wannabes or journeymen and we can give it our best as this season

Hopefully they will look where it is being spent and have some control over the non playing money in case it gets diverted to another venture? Having said that they can't control what happens to the gate money.

Today's article in the Times mentions the figure of £1.2 million extra (per annum?) for getting in to the Football League. It also suggests that this year's playing budget was just £350,000.
Quite a big difference there. But with the highest payed player this season on just £500 a week surely the squad will all get a pay rise next season?

I read somewhere that getting back into the EFL was worth £900,000 basic per season. Add on extra sponsorship, extra gate receipts, season tickets, and that figure looks about right. That's almost four times the income from last season if the £350,000 is correct from the Times article. You would think that most players on Sir John's retained list will possibly double their money?

The players, and especially the agents , will know how much extra money is available , so they will make sure most of it goes to The playing budget.

The budget for next season will no doubt be set by AA.

I just hope he comes up with something realistic, so that we can be competitive in L2, and try to build on what we've achieved.

Macch...isn't the budget set by MB when he knows how much, if any, AA is willing and able to commit. I suppose a budget can be prepared without any financial input from the Directors - relying on all the other sources of income.

Tried reading the EFL fair play information and looks like you can spend up to 55% of overall income on wages. Of course, at the start of the season, you don't actually know your total income as gates will not be known and there may be prize money from cup games etc. Seems that it works on estimated income and can be adjusted as the season progresses ( up or down ) which in turn means that you need to be careful not to get near the 55% from the start in case your income turns out to be less . Interestingly, it seems that cash input from a benefactor/owner doesn't count as income so can be used to boost the budget ? I've probably got that all wrong but it's all there to be read ,so someone else please have a look and see what you think .

If our overall income next season is in the region of £1.5mill then our playing budget should be about £800,000 so a squad of 20 would make an average salary of £40,000pa which is close to the average for League Two.

I am not sure how up to date the linked article is but it says, in effect, that donations from wealthy owners are included as part of the Turnover and thus available for wages, whereas loans from owners are not so included or available.
