One thing that was particularly noticeable yesterday, to me at least, was the difference in adversity shown by the two sides. If a Barrow player misplaced a pass, on many occasions his team mates would let him know about it with either negative comments or visual gestures, whereas the Macc players just got on with it and only encouraged their team mates.

Likewise when Macc went a goal down their heads did not drop whereas the Barrow did seem to lose heart.

There probably is not too much difference in the quality of individual players at say Macc, Barrow and Chester but in terms of playing as a team there is quite a gulf.

On another thing, it was nice to see Grant Holt give Danny W a friendly pat on the head, as if to say, "Why are we doing this at our age?"

agree with most of that, however most of Maccs players are arguably better than the players of the teams you list..... and some by a huge margin of class, DW, DW ED, GP et al

That was, and has been the difference Ron. Applauding things that went well, and applauding things that were meant well. A 'team' ruled my negativity goes nowhere. A 'team' acknowledging strengths, and acknowledging that things will go wrong (us not being robots) but putting it right as soon as possible afterwards, is the key to success with groups of people in any sphere.
I had a brief chat with Danny Whit in our local park today; what a pleasant bloke. You feel that the whole team has this character.
It was also nice to see Kingsley James come across to a few fans/friends after the game. He seemed to take the ribbing from some fans round me in good spirit. After all, these are just guys whose bottom line is they like playing football, and success is a further massive bonus.

It applies to the 12th man too - too many moaners loudly and audibly when we were 1 down on Sat.

I don't feel that many have ever played football, or any other 'team' game.
