New update from the players

There is a new update from the players on the Star Lane End website:

"First of all we would like to acknowledge and thank all of the supporters that have been in touch in such a short space of time to offer their backing.
We appreciate this greatly.

This afternoon the squad met with the club chairman, Mark Blower.

In the meeting, Mr Blower stated it was not in his remit to inform the players and staff that funds would not be available to pay January wages.

He explained that the sole cause of this was down to the owner not making the funds required available.

We look forward to communicating directly with the owner about this."

This does beg the question as to why the monies in the player fund could not have been used to pay the January wages. For example:

- Has it been used to pay other bills?
- Does it get channelled into short-term investments on the UK or international money markets?
- Does it slosh around somewhere else?

I don't know, but it would be nice to know [8D]

So are we saying that Amar will be transferring money to pay the wages on Monday? Is that because we have a cash flow problem so this is a temporary loan?

AMAR OUT.

Even the Chairman admits that he has not paid the players. What a joke, I don't care how much cash he's put in, if he's not fit to own OUR football club then do one. Take your loans and bugger off elsewhere.

Remember the false promises? The absolute XXXXXXe about how much him and his family cared about the club?

Get OUT!!!

Meanwhile Mr Teflon squeaks his way out of it by blaming the owner. Sorry Mr Blower, like it or not, you are the spokesman for the owner. The buck stops with you and it IS your responsibility to keep the manager up to date so he can keep the players informed. Stop being so slippery and admit you’ve made a PR disaster this week akin to Mr Ratner’s “we sell crap”comments all those years’ ago. That use of MTFC to ease your way onto the FA Board of Directors is looking dodgy now isn’t it or are you doing it “solely voluntarily because you love the club”? Door. Exit. Close. Slam. Goodbye. By the way, if I was the owner I’d sack you for incompetence even if you don’t walk!

Cheeseburger, you seem to have your finger on the pulse of this unfortunate matter, so could you tell us when Blower should have informed Askey when his players, and I suppose Askey himself, were not going to be paid?

And anyone else, when were the players’s wages due for payment? No one seems to have said, surely those who are being briefed by the players know, let’s have some transparency here.

Was the missed payment accidental or deliberate? (i.e. administrative blunder, or lack of funds)

Whose 'remit' is it exactly then to keep players informed that they may not get paid on time?

Maybe we should employ an HR manager. There must be plenty of vacant offices.

Mark Blower’s role has been to produce the business plan and budget, agree these with Amar and then oversee the implementation. As far as I can see he has carried this role with admirable efficiency. With the aid of the help of the great efforts of volunteer fans much has been achieved with meagre resources.
I suspect he had no pre warning of the missed payments. As I have said elsewhere a Fans Forum is needed urgently.

Why does Mark Blower continue to agree to represent Amar Alkhadi? It has seemed like an uncomfortable job for some years now. Surely it is the Chairman's role to inform JA about matters concerning the wages of the players. I hope they are offered a bonus to compensate for the late payment of their January wages.

Would the players wages normally be paid by money released by AA? This doesn't seem likely. I didn't think he had that much to do with the day to day running of the club.
It looks to me that we may have needed a loan from the owner this time and that communication between the various parties was not the best.

WillMill may have a view on this if he feels able to comment.

The line from the club said it was 'budgeted monies' so doesn't sound like a loan - more like our budget includes staged payments and this one didn't materialise.

There is an in-depth interview with Mr Blower on the SLE site now. Make of it what you will.

Basically, he cites a technical problem for the money not arriving on time.

Bob Trafford has done a tremendous job and I suggest that all fans should read his interview with Mark Blower. It's on SLE. I think it gives a true insight into the appalling events of the last week. Might I suggest that the official site should reprint the interview and someone should be looking at what their role should have been over the last few weeks.
I have no insider knowledge but I think this is a time for fans to get behind everyone working for the club. This is a true ‘against all odds’ moment. May I suggest to Bob that this is the moment for some follow up interviews with John and the players focusing on the mammoth task ahead.

Willmill my question is if this was just a question of a technical error, then why did the players come out publicly about it? Has this situation happened before I wonder and nothing has been said? The explanation from Mark Blower seems plausible but again I ask the question why did the players go public? Surely as they arranged a meeting with Mr Blower, they would be in receipt of his explanation, but still chose to go public. The players in my opinion were clearly concerned that they weren’t going to be paid hence why they went public about it to ensure they DID get paid. Let’s hope that they - and all the rest of the staff - do get paid tomorrow and we can put this behind us and concentrate on the footballing side of things.

I think you need to read the Mark Blower interview in full. He indicates he has been away on business and hasn't been in regular touch with John. He said -
'On a number of occasions smaller shortfalls have been seen and so myself and others have injected cash into the account to make sure the wages and other bills were paid.
On this occasion the shortfall was too big and as the delayed payment was coming from the majority shareholder, I wanted him to speak to John about it, rather than myself, which he did.'

We all hope they were fully reassured.

I have read it on full and it doesn’t answer the question I posed. The players and/or the management were clearly in contact with Mark Blower as a meeting was organised and took place later in the day. If as Mark claims the payments weren’t made due to a technical error then why did the players choose to go public and not accept this explanation? Something doesn’t quite add up.Don’t get me wrong I think the players acted quite correctly but they clearly thought there was a chance they wouldn’t get paid, hence the need to put the information in the public domain. Let’s hope as I have said this is a mere blip.

It has been suggested by others that AA may be using the club as a float for his business and if there is a problem in that quarter e.g late payment by debtors then the club will suffer. This may be a logical explanation of the current situation. There may be a case for direct payment of players in the form of a gift if the fans are looking to contribute more funds-shame we can't take the money off the gate!

I think Blower needs to go! He's fallen out with the manager, he doesn't take responsibility rather he blames the owner, he seems to be economical with the truth and he appears unable to carry out his role of Chairman. He should do the honourable thing and resign then he can spend more time on his business in London. I don't trust him or think his values are right for the role of Chairman of our football club.

Well whatever way you read the various statements from the Chairman and the players this is a PR disaster for both the owner and the Chairman. One or other of them may have to go I would think, but if AA just walked away then who knows where the funds to support the club would come from.

Because when the real truth eventually comes out, no-one can accuse Messrs Blower & AlKhadi of lying if their comments are reported by a 3rd party and they can then be explained as "mis-quotes" rather than total lies.

Hi Saltire.

Your question is a very valid one, but I strongly suspect that the fact that both the players / staff and Mark Blower have communicated so openly, is testimony to the fact that Bob Trafford's website is seen as an effective and unbiased means of communicating information to the fan-base of MTFC [^][:D].

The fact that we have two vibrant websites for such a small club is IMHO a real 'feather in the cap' for the fans of Macclesfield Town, and long may it continue [8D].

Kindest regards

PB [smi].
