TORQUAY ON SATURDAY

We really have to win on Saturday against the team bottom of the table. Torquay have not won any of their last 8 games and have managed just 3 draws in that run and scored only 3 goals whilst conceding 17. We should be able to brush them aside and claw back some of the goal difference damage inflicted by £ylde......BUT...

No ifs or Buts, its a win and nothing less. Obviously everyone is capable of beating each other at this level, and Liverpool Swansea in the mega bucks league reinforces the same point in top versus bottom clashes, but given our run in of games this has to be a home win and a healthy one at that.
JA has to put out an attacking formation that can provide width to breakdown what I imagine will be a defensive formation from a Zero confidence team.
3 points and some tricky fixtures for our main rivals this weekend will give us that impetus back to push for automatic promotion.

Warning: at the end of Nov beginning of Dec Torquay had an interesting 3 match run, won away at Sutton, beat Orient at home and drew away at Aldershot. We need our best game head on to bounce back.

Play 2 up top and we'll win. Play 1 and we'll struggle.

Wilson has openly admitted he prefers playing in a 2. Bliss will be fired up against his former side. Come on JA, you know what to do.

The three must starters for me are Jalal, Evans and Hancox. the starting formation is less important than the movement and number getting forward as we attack.

No sub keeper Fola?
Who from Folas' team would you leave out for Mitch , Will Mill?
Probably I'd agree with Folas' 11 but would Have Sam and Mitch on the bench in place of Arthur and Baba

Sadly, for Torquay it could be Too Late To Be Saved (1971, not one of their best!)

I would like to see our central midfield more secure, with someone who is better at breaking up play

You can't play 2 strikers, 2 wingers, ask the full backs to push on and have the 2 Danny's in the middle. There are so many times this season where we have left massive gaps in there and teams have failed to exploit it. Last Saturday we got exposed there. It's not being negative to make sure that area is strong, it gives you a good base and allows you to win the ball back quicker

I would go for LLoyd and Whitehead in there

Our nearest challengers Aldershot, Sutton, Wrexham and Tranmere all have tricky games on Saturday where any of them would probably be happy with a draw. If we beat Torquay we could well go 5 or even 6 points clear at the top. Now there is some incentive for everyone.
A worst case scenario with Aldershot and Sutton winning and us losing would see us drop to 3rd place on goal difference. Psychologicaly that would not be a good thing at all.

From my seat in the London Road Stand it looked like a foul on Jalal for their equaliser. What does anyone at the Star Lane End think?

Torquay are a poor poor side, defensively awful, jalal is a liability, we have taken 2 points from possible 9 including a 6-0 drubbing, we will not win the league and we will not be going up.[V][V][V]

They actually had the 3 best chances though, although we seemed to get the ball in the area, we only made their very dodgy keeper pull off one actual save.Given the position we got in time and again on the right side we should have done much better.

We will never had have a better chance to get out of this league and I think we have blown it. Last chance saloon to get ahead of the pack with Guiseley depending on what happens in other games next week when we will be off.

Could feel the tension/nerves on and off the pitch today.

This was going to happen at some point.

Let's hope it starts to click again in the next few games.

All we can do is get behind them and cut the bickering between ourselves.

Still top of the league, every one is going to up their game against us....."We're top of the league"

One game at a time. Let's go again.

He is only effective when we are breaking hence his away goals and v Wrexham they were committed when he broke free. marsh has to start contributing to the goall tally otherwise we will struggle. Blissett is an option when we need to throw balls up to the front, notices we didn't play out out from the back as much yesterrday.

I can't help thinking SJA doesn't know his strongest side at the moment and he keeps chopping and changing therefore not giving them the confidence where it really matters. We dominated yesterday although created very little. I can only recall their keeper making one save and he couldn't catch a cold, he was shocking, ball after ball should have been put under the bar with players rushing in......we just didn't get it! The positives, we're at the top still and performance is still there, we just need a couple of ugly wins again to get us back on track.

All felt a bit frantic yesterday - I think the players were very anxious to atone for Fylde.

Damaging result confidence wise. Arguably moreso than the 6.0. Very deflating at the end.

I genuinely rate Jalal and he actually made a couple of very good saves, but from where I was looking it appeared a horrendous goalkeeping error for the equaliser. Think he totally lost situational awareness, didn't get a shout (no excuse) and therefore was surprised by the challenge.

Maybe we need Hancox and Baba in MF as we are too lightweight and Hancox knows where the onion bag is. I would rest Lloyd and Whitty for next game and they could always come on if it don't work. We need to get at sides more when we don't have the ball.

Thought we were too predictable in attack. Ball out to the flanks - cross - no one on the end of it - all game. Interesting that our goal was scored by Whitehead driving directly through the middle towards their goal.

Whiteheads goal came from a clearance from a cross, not from an attack down the middle. I agree that we should have put the game to bed well before the Jalal blunder.

Jalal's sixth blunder of the season- Hartlepool, Woking, Fylde, Maidstone, Eastleigh and now Torquay, all at the Moss. The stupid thing is he's actually a decent keeper, but prone to 'switching off' when having time to think.

I thought we played some good football on Saturday, controlled the game for long periods and should really have been 3 or 4-1 up at HT. Evans and Durrell linked up superbly, I can't believe at least one of their crosses weren't converted. Luck was on Torquay's side early on, but our strikers didn't gamble, and we weren't testing their shaky keeper any where near enough, so we only have ourselves to blame.
As the game went on it did become a bit predictable in attack, the visitors confidence visibly grew as they saw Macc's limitations, despite all the possession and lofty league position, another frustrating afternoon.
