Strange. Especially with Jalal making a few mistakes.

More likely he isn't happy to be second choice.

Most likely seen Jalal be shaky and not get an opportunity to take the #1 shirt so wants out. Can't blame him really.

Can't say that this comes as any great surprise. Man of the match in his one full game and then dropped back to the bench. Hardly encouraging ![V]

Billy O'Brien couldn't catch a cold at Gateshead, but they all had an off game that day. He deserved to get another chance after Shwan's Woking horror show, but glad he didn't after being MOTM at Solihull.
A shame he's leaving, but if he's not willing to fight for the no1 shirt, its best he's gone.

Bit worrying really as jalal has been dreadful, a million miles off what he was like last time round. The awful mistake v Woking, fyldes goal last night should have been saved and his kicking has been woeful .
From what I've seen so far if we had a solid keeper and a bit more clinical finishing up front then we have a squad which could compete with the top 4 easily

I don't think Billy was really given a fair chance here, but I'm not too worried as long as we get a reasonable calibre replacement.

I'm hoping this hasn't just been done to trim the wage bill and means his successor will be sought reluctantly, or not at all.

Billy O'Brien is destined for League football. It wasn't in his interest to stay warming the bench. As reserve keeper we need a young keeper who can benefit from fulltime coaching, a keeper slipping down the leagues or even one that has left fulltime football but can act as reserve on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Without a reserve side we are always likely to have problems.[rle]

Do we have a goalkeeping coach? If not an ambitious young goalkeeper is not going to benefit much with us playing the occasions Cheshire Senior cup tie

As pauljames noted at the time, Billy opted for a 'quieter life', joining the Royal Marines.

Next month (along with a fellow Marine) he’s undertaking a National 3 Peaks charity challenge for Mind ( https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/matthew-mckiernan?utm_term=vrGGgmK8E ) :

“...We will be cycling to each of the peaks with the hope of completing it in 5 days!
• Distance Climbed: 27 miles
• Elevation Climbed: 3,600 metres
• Distance Cycled: 446 miles
• Elevation Cycled: 5,700 metres”
