I don't know what the alternative is, but this isn't good enough JA.

Difficult decision for the club now, I feel they will stay loyal to JA even though they know (as we can all see) that he is struggling.

Me personally, I would like to see a change and at least go down fighting

Who would you bring in?

When Simmo's team were bottom of the Football League 18 months ago, many here wanted to see a change so that we'd at least go down fighting. We changed. Did we go down fighting?

No.

Given that we've chosen the wrong man now on every occasion we've needed a new manager for the last 10 years - except (possibly) Paul Ince - what makes you think a new manager will do any better?

That's eight bad choices out of nine. Each manager has left the club worse off than when he took over.

Why's that then?

Why is that? Because the key to success in football, as in so many other enterprises, is continuity and long term planning. Something that has been sadly lacking at the Moss for the last decade.

Like I said - I would rather go down fighting, remember that word fight! when we sat in the suite listening to the rally call for the fans to stand upto the plate.... No fight from what I have seen from the management team and squad upto now (Conner Jennings may disagree).

I understand the money scenario, I understand there isn't a ready made replacement knocking on the door to oust Askey, but for gods sake watching anymore of this will end what little chance we have of generating any interest either financially or on the terraces..... to do NOTHING can not be an option

You may be correct that JA is here for the season regardless of results and you have a valid point about changing managers too hastily. FWIW I thought the overall performance today was an improvement ( apart from some fortunate defending ). However, I don't see most supporters continuing to attend if these results continue and I include ST holders in that.

I hate to say it as this is worrying but I'm still sticking with j.a. Time is on our side! Don't let's us become next Stockport county sacking managers , this season a building a team season, what our the options if he is sacked or steps down! I for one can't see any point in a change in manager so soon !

JA never been a senior manger never will be. How can a respectable club have a guy with such a disastrous record, what is it now. .. 15/16 no wins??

No idea at all. The lack of input coming from that dugout is totally unacceptable. Yes you can forgive 3/4 bad games or a run of no wins, but this is becoming a joke now.

Do the right thing JA, before it's to late

I've watched all 8 games and I would say today was our worst performance. Worst yet in defence, usual lack of creativity in MF (although Joe Connor showed the remarkable distinction of being better at controlling a ball with his chest than his feet!!) and two strikers starved of the sort of balls on which they would thrive. At least last week the defence were ok. If you want any positives, Jack and Rowe were a bit better (but I have a feeling that if they started next game they would look just as flat as today's starting XI), and with Connor at least we won a bit more in the air over 90 minutes. Boden again ran his socks off for little reward.

JA's track record did not justify his appointment, no matter how skint we were. We have found the money for 25 players.

He has assembled a decent core of 14-16 players good enough for top half, but without intervention I fear we are heading for the trap door.

John Askey stood on the touchline like a man who has given up.No passion in the whole 90 mins.

The worst football i have seen in a long time and i am sick of hearing he has no money to work with. He has a squad of players that is good enough for this league.

And those saying Gary Lowe walked away from Hyde just because of the low budget, dont always believe what you read in the papers.

You cant stand on the touchline with your hands in your pockets for 90 mins whilst your team delivers that type of football.

It was to say the least a disappointing performance after what was a very bright beginning with Danny Whittaker at last having some possession and using it effectively, linking with Peter Winn as we switched the ball from flank to flank with some purpose. We looked dangerous though apart from a Holroyd miskick we didn't really threaten to score. But, I was hopeful.

Then they scored after a bad mistake by Taylor (lucky not to get red carded, I couldn't see from SLE?)and the resultant free kick saw our defence do impressions of statues as McGrath ran straight across the six yard box unmarked to score.

Thereafter as the game progressed, instead of getting the ball down to play we started lumping it forward more and more to our two small front men[sad]. Whittaker and Winn who had been influential in the first 20 minutes disappeared from the game and it was only after the introduction of Jack and Rowe late on, that there were flashes of promise. We finally forced their keeper into making a meaningful save as he tipped a Boden effort over with a couple of minutes left, but it was too little, too late and if we're honest we should have got beaten by 4 or 5. Clayton will no doubt have woken up screaming after doing a Ronnie Rosendthal impression, as well as missing two decent other chances first half. The big unit Akinde - who was a real handful and the type of guy we need if we're to play hoofball - also missed a couple of easy chances, one of which came back off the post.

Had you asked a neutral to name the home side it wouldn't have been us!!

Defence today was very poor indeed and Taylor who in fairness has been pretty consistent, had an absolute mare. How many times did he come for a cross and get nowhere near? Both full backs were fair, but the two centre backs were bullied out of it by the big unit.

In midfield after a bright beginning and seemingly some structure, it all fell apart after the goal and got worse as the game went on.

Up front Boden and Holroyd both put in a shift, Boden in particular earns my plaudits for his workrate. He at least shows the spirit we need to get out of this mess.

The subs Jack and Danny Rowe added a bit of positivity and has been said we do have the makings of a half decent squad who could get us out of this mess. Maybe as they say, a win would turn things around. I've no doubt about that, but I can't on yesterday's performance see one coming anytime soon.

I will be going to Chester. Unfortunately my daughter-in-law is a big Chester fan and attends most games. On this evidence she will have family bragging rights for the months to come[V][V]

Mind you Chester beat Wrexham against all odds. Dare I dream?

Yes I thought Boden was our best player. Worked hard and held the ball up well. He rarely gives the ball away. There are times when he and Holroyd combine well, although whether they are too lightweight as a combination remains to be seen.

Whit is yet to find his form but I thought he did better after Mackreth came on and he moved to a more central position.

After a shaky start Joe Connor did his job well and the three subs all livened things up when they came on.

Is Efe a bit past his sell by date? He looked it at times yesterday. Worth bringing Martin in perhaps?

Some important games coming up against teams just above us. Time to stick together and get behind the team.

B69 your bang on.
JA loooked worried, confused and out of his depth I'm afraid. To be fair there was nobody even looking close to offering advice or support to him I.e. a good no2.

Regardless of budget he has a full time group of players who constantly get out run, out thought and out fought by semi pro sides (who turn up 10 mins before ko!). Lets have it right we should have lost 4-1, 5-1 yesterday.

Time to go, he's had a decent amount of games to show what he's about, last season and this. REGARDLESS OF BUDGET it's been very poor.

Saying that regardless of budget, things should be better does not change the fact that low budget IS the fundamental reason we are struggling.

Obviously performances and results have to improve, I just cannot see how a new manager will be able to improve results.

A new manager would probably inherit an even worse situation. Some of the squad are only here because of Askey. Since there's no money to bring in anyone else, we'd have to get rid of Sodje too just to allow the new bloke funds to bring in an assistant.

This would leave us short of a centre half, with no money to bring in another.

That would also leave us without the Efe Sodje who brought in our fitness coach who is working part time for free because he's Sodje's mate, found the guy who paid 10k to play, and brought in the sponsorship partnerships with Tesco and McGarry.

The new manager would not be able to bring in any players.

He'd still have no physical presence in the side at the back and at the front.

Would a new manager give enough of a damn about the club to spend his spare time trying to find commercial partners and people who'll work for nothing to help MTFC?

I'm sorry, but I don't think some of you lot are thinking through the full implications here.

JA is really struggling on the field but he won't quit and his side can still come good. It is very early days.

Quite apart from that, we don't really have another option. Sacking managers over and over just does not work.

Please will people stop calling for John Askey to go after only 8 games. He needs support from us, time and a bit of luck.
As many others have said we have a very small budget and we need everyone fit and playing together for us to start to get results. I am very hopeful that Martin coming back will strengthen the defence. I like the look of him last season before he was injured.

Looking at the table it looks like we'be had a tougher start than it looked before it all kicked off.

In eight games we've played 2, 5, 8, the team who would be 9th but for a deduction, 10, 13, 14, 18 and we should have beaten 14 and 18, two of the only three bottom half sides we've played, both away.

All this with injuries to our two most experienced centre backs, losing two of three strikers in five minutes of each other, not having the captain fit out of a squad where survival is seen by many to be a success.

Call it happy clappy if you like, but it's just one way of looking at the situation.

We lost at home to Alfreton last season too.

You can't sack a new manager after 8 games. Our heaviest defeat thus far is 1.0.

Whether or not we could afford to sack JA I don't know but in any event he, or any other manager deserves more that 8 games to prove his worth.
