Lee Jeffries, runs Rare Soul Direct with his dad Steve. It was Kenny Burrell's old copy with 'To Kenny, best wishes Frank Wilson' scrawled over one side. Sacrilige to write on the label of such a rare record even if it was an autograph it wasn't done at time of the 45's release. Any yes it's probably the most overplayed record of all time..divvy pish..

It’s hardly overplayed, rarely makes an airing on mainstream radio.
Agreed it is wedding fodder though.
Still gets blank looks at most parties when aired to a mainstream crowd.

Rumoured to have paid enough money to buy a 'small house'

Maybe it is somewhat entry level for the aficionados, & god forbid anyone should antagonise the soul police.

However,
to a lot of people it's hearing songs like that & other apparently overplayed tunes, that got them into the music in the first place.

I bought Jimmy Mack, Ghost in my house & Heatwave when I was about 13, clearly in some people's eyes I should have saved my paper round money for some obscure 7 inches that truly was dirge....

Yeah but Ghost in my House isn't classed as a northern soul track.

By overplayed I mean it's posted on comedy mod and northern Facebook sites weekly.

When it was first played at the Casino it was a one-off and sounded brilliant. My mate from Nottingham Jonathan Woodliffe owned it and swapped it for circa £200's worth of Jazz Funk 12"circa 1979.

It's not a Soul Police thing. It's just that this particular 45 has become an anthem for the baggy trouser brigade who have found Northern Soul for the first time at 50+ and turned it into a drunken, divvy dating scene.

There is still a rare soul scene that flourishes in Europe with a lot of vibrant, younger devotees and new, fresh progressive tunes from the 60s through to the 90's. In escence the soul scene has split into two camps but that's not the first time that has happened.[rle]
