Looked like fireworks to me as you could see things going off through the smoke.

Fallout? Yet another conspiracy theory?[rle]

I have a good friend who is HSE Manager of a facility close to the port. Luckily he was away on a Site visit as his office is now flattened and he would certainly have been killed or very badly injured.
He is in shock, but it doesn’t surprise him. As Is often the case, HSE is always payed lip service to by Company management until there is a need to spend money and then the politicians and bean counters always win. He says this just adds to the misery they are already having to put up with, as their economy has flatlined and they are struggling to cope with Covid on the increase again.

Yes, through the smoke it looks like a few fireworks initially, but no one on this planet can think that explosion was fireworks, surely to Christ.

There will be a lot of blame shifting and politicising but it’s not uncommon. This is the problem with storage of highly hazardous chemicals on a worldwide basis. They use “standard” fire separation distances and quantitative risk assessments (QRA) to justify location close to other populations. QRA consists of fault trees, based on Boolean (and/or) algebra to determine the likelihood of a hazardous event being realised and event trees to determine the probabilities of different outcomes. Data is based on assumptions which may or may not be reasonable. It is always difficult to convince management to spend money on extra protections for high consequence low frequency events as little account is taken of human error or on escalation of improbable events from adjacent sites or other sources, which seems to be what happened here. Terrorism and plane crashes are also discounted as improbable events.

Ess
I was sent a number of vids taken by locals yesterday. From the sea you can hear what sounds like rockets going off. From a block of flats overlooking the port you could see things exploding. All looked and sounded far too small to be explosives but then I know naff all about explosives. One of the vids shows a massive smoke ring that billows out and dissipates almost immediately.
I based my fireworks comment on the above.

Still mac got some traffic so everything is good.

I knew a lad who blew off the lower half of his left arm by holding a pipe bomb whilst whacking it with a hammer.
He didn't do it again.
