For all the 'bleeding heart liberals' screaming "defund the Police" as part of recent BLM protests, there was an interesting story in today's Leicester Mercury.

An off-duty police officer was pulled over by marked patrol car and the driver was found to be well over legal drink-drive limit

I think 20 years ago in this situation, the driver would have shown his Warrant Card and 9 times out of 10, the arresting officers would have let him off with a warning, or given him a ride home to keep him & others safe. (Cops sticking together as a brotherhood).

The drunk-driver got booted off the force, for "behaviour unbecoming of a Police officer and bringing discredit to the force", so a good example of how Police are much more accountable these days, and have to comply with same laws/standards as us regular citizens.

A with most professions, Lawyers, Doctors, football fans, Teachers, etc, it's the behaviour of the tiny minority that makes the headlines and puts integrity of an entire profession into question.

Well thanks for that, nothing to get upset about in the world then.

'bleeding heart liberals' really??

If I described you as 'ranting gammon scared by anything different' ( I don't think you are I hasten to add) would you be happy, would you bother to even read past the lazy generalisation?

Love how you dropped in football fans as if it was some kind of profession. It may be but I'm unaware of any qualifications that are needed.

If you remember Hackney, we grew up with the "few bad apples" analogy as football fans.... back in the 70's many of us as young men going to watch a game with your mates were classified by society & the Police as 'hooligans' when 99.999% of us just wanted to watch our LCFC idols like Weller & Franky Wortho

Funny, I thought I saw a police officer callously kill a man watched by three other officers.
Not an isolated incident but part of a systemic culture which the department thought might be resolved by sacking the killer.
The football analogy is poor because although the number of 'fans' involved in hooligan behaviour was small they came within an ace of destroying the professional game and those of us who were forced to buy seats as a result paid the increased price of that for the next twenty odd years. Thanks for that...
