Used to play 3-card brag every Sunday lunchtime at the pub, with some lads who had money..... if some boozed-up 'super-hero' insisted on going 'blind', pots could get up to two or three hundred quid.

One of these well-heeled w@nkers dropped by my house one day I was off work, and asked if I wanted to go down the snooker club for a few frames and a pint

It started off with 50 quid a frame and I just edged him out in 5 or 6 games n the trot (each one "double or quits")

Time to leave after being there all afternoon, I'm 500 pounds up, and he asks for final "double or quits"?
As I was on a roll, I agreed and we played one final frame of snooker for a THOUSAND quid

I had two modest winning bets on L'Escargot. The first was pre-decimal money on the 1970 Gold Cup and "apres" the second time for the 1975 Grand National.
Flushed with success I wisely decided to give up betting while I was ahead and haven't placed any kind of bet since!

Borbage - I worked in a Pub in Melton when I was an 18-year old student, around 1976.
The Landlord after closing one night, said he was going to Ladbrokes Casino in Leicester and if I anted to go with him, he'd give me some stake money and show me how to play Black Jack.
We both did great - he won a couple of hundred, and I won about sixty quid.

I excited told my parents in the morning, waiving a fistful of fivers around, an my Dad said - winning first tim out is probably the WORST thing you could do, cause you're going to think that's the norm.

Best is what you did - win and stop while you're ahead

New Year's Day 2008. Faacked off out of Loftus Road at HT. Faacked off home stuck £200 on City to be relegated. Won £1600 when we drew at Stoke last game.
Paid for a fair bit of the daughter's wedding. On the weekend after Orient away.
Mad Dog came to the reception. He was 6 inches away when Glenn Tilbrook got up on a bar stool to sing an acoustic version of the song lyrics quoted on here earlier today.
"This morning at 4.50
I took her rather nifty . . . ."
Great day

Norwich bought Huckerby in the transfer window and pipped WBA in the final few games...

£500 on Brazil to beat Belgium @ 2/5, Japan world cup 2002.

Nil nil at half time, I was slightly concerned to say the least.

I may have reined it in somewhat subsequently.

Brazil won 2 nil....I probably blew the winnings, can recall doing anything constructive with it.

thank you Foxy... was allowing the excitement to build [;)]

Playing for a thousand pounds, I could hardly hold the cue straight, hands were shaking & sweating

Even game, but I missed the final black & my mate was left with an easy pot into corner pocket (ball only 12" away from pocket), however it was a long shot from other end of the table

He shot, black bobbled but stayed UP, leaving me a simple short shot to finish.

Over 40 years ago but remember the day vividly, winning a thousand pounds on one frame of snooker.

The lad was a gentleman, and came round my house the next day with the cash to square up. Out of respect, I never mentioned it in our circle of friends, so as not to embarrass him and sentence him to a lifetime of "fancy a game of snooker? LOFL".
