I struggle to get excited these days.

M&S slacks as standard.

Does everyone loose their sartorial habits with age?

Yes, I stopped using Grecian 2ooo in 2ooo. Not sure it lived up to its claims, it became a bit of a grey area.

I never don any of my extensive collection of Loon pants on windy days as a sensible health & safety precaution. They do go well with a nice cheesecloth shirt(top 2 buttons left undone).
For more formal occasions I usually go for the slightly tapered down Kim Jong-Un look!

I still like clothes Bill. Not fussed about labels and having very expensive stuff. In fact most of my stuff is very cheap even if it doesn't look it. But liking clothes is one of my unimportant things which I still enjoy.

you reckon, genuinely the branded stuff is a damn sight better quality. Admittedly not relative to the price but its better stuff. You buy it if you can afford it l surpose, and l do understand people who by clothes just to keep warm. I've always spend bundles on clobber when i've got money, still look like a bag of s h it though[:D]

l guess its whatever you like spending your money on, all my mates like to spend a few quid.

What about watches, status symbols l surpose but most blokes like a good'n don't they !

What do you spend your money on Astley ?

Have never seen the point of watches.

Not with the clock in the kitchen on mobile in the car and on the computer.

At least they don’t seem to loose that much value.

Cars on the other hand. Biggest waste of cash going.

What do I spend my money on? You may think youre smart, with your currencies, gold, silver and re-adjustments. But one day, I will be able to buy you with my small change. My missus knows finance, and she has invested our income in a carefully selected collection of shoes and handbags. She says one day we will retire on if.
Seriously, though, Im not a wanty person. If you gave me a grand in cash, tomorrow, I wouldnt know what to spend it on. As for watches and status symbols, I dont wear them. I dont feel I have to compete with anyone, or prove anything with them. I have, to be honest, just bought my first motorbike fo years, as we paid the mortgage off early. But now I have it, I cant seem to get very excited about it.
One of the saddest places Ive been to, is a “designer outlet”, near Oxford , with the Missus. A scheduled service disgorged coach loads of to55ers from London, on the hour, to snap up bargain £50 plain white t-shirts, with Giorgio Fandango embroidered on the chest. For bucks sake, Giorgio didnt design it! He probably doesnt exist! I died a little, that day.

its a c r a p place, its just where the stuff that Gucci etc can't sell because iits c r a p. Its an illusion, you see all the big names but there isn't any bargains, in fact brands like Ralph Lauren produce c r a p just to sell off cheap.

l do spend money, l spend a lot on my kids and grandkids, l can't explain why, maybe because l had nothing as a kid, except when my grandma took me shoplifting up Oxford street when l was little. By the way l didn't know she was a shoplifter until l was 25. l couldn't understand how my grandma, a Irish lady from Leicester knew everyone in Lions corner house at Marble Arch every time we went in there.

Bought a rather expensive "Jumper" from one of those arcade shops off the market back in the late 70`s. Rainbow, lightning bolt and cloud woven into the design. Saw a few variations on the terraces at City games. Loved wearing it until it shrank one day after many years of use.

Those jumpers were the dogs back then.
Like the cover of Dark side of the Moon? ( I think)
From Malcom Arcade a bit further towards the Market and on the other side to Tebbutt and Brown ?
Funnily enough was thinking about clothes from when I was a kid the other day , remembered my Leicester City jumper, it was bright blue with a white wing collar, a little pocket on the chest with white dots depicting the team and Leicester City written vertically down the other side
Would be about 1975 I’d guess

I wanted a new watch a month or so ago, just wanted a waterproof watch that you set the time by winding the handles with.

You have no idea how difficult that was.

I bought a G shock one in the end about £100, it tells you the time in every other country amongst other totally useless things for me.

Seriously, if I want something, within reason, Ill buy it. As I said, theres seldom much I want, ( although, getting this buckin bike working is accounting for more than I Was expecting)! I do like to have good tools for work, so a bit goes that way. The clothes thing baffles me, though. Overpaying for gear, on which you advertise someones company for them, not for me. Does it say, “look at my shirt, I am considerably richer than yaaw”? My clothes are high street, and the older it gets, the more comfortable I feel in it. “Designer gear is no better than good off the shelf. Big corporations, and the MSM have told you it is More desirable, so you suck it up. 🐏🐑

We can put up a timer frame. Clad and insulate it. Fit all external doors and windows. Board the floors. Frame the roof. Stud internal walls and board them. Swing internal doors. Fit kitchen. Second fix. Third fix. Youre obsolete. Live with it.

Some clothes example performance wear and trainers increase in price so you get your money back.

My mate recently won a raffle for a pair of Jordan trainers he paid £1800 for them and sold them for 8k. You can buy clothes for cheaper but often with cheaper clothes you get poor fit, poor colour fastness all depends on preference too.

I buy designer clothes from selfridges but I get 50% off as my sister works there but not sure if I would pay full price. The mark up on designers clothes are massive partly because they don’t want every tom and Harry to have/wear them.

I do a lot of work for high fashion. Boss, Fred Perry, URBN, Lacoste etc. Significant amount of all their products are made in the far east and the mark up is astronomical. The quality is better but you are paying massively to be a flash advert. No problem if you're happy to do that though.

FirenzeFox/Clifton Rd ... My late Uncle used to make those expensive jumpers In his back bedroom for a guy called George Hostler, the owner of the shop in the Malcolm arcade in town. He had the shop in Leicester and one in London. They were called Matropus jumpers. Yes, the ones with the Cloud, Rainbow, and bolt of lightening, usually in Silver Lurex, on the front. The guy got his publicity for them when Gyles Brandreth wore them every morning on TVAM at the time, the bright coloured ones with the Eggs and Chickens on. They sold for around £125 or so during the late 70's and very early eighties. Very expensive at the time. They were the first Designer jumpers, really. My uncle also made the one for Princess Diana with the Sheep on, did one with the Wings logo on for Paul McCartney, one with Rocket Man on for Elton John and a Polo Horse design for Joanna Lumley.... Which eventually Ralph Lauren started using, along with the Teddy Bear design. All made by my Uncle. So remember looking at these individual jumpers before they went out his house, even Princess Di's. I had loads .... All the Rainbow and Lightening ones, Rolls Royce Logo, Guinness Logo, Polo Mints tube, De Kuyper Cherry Brandy, Coca Cola logo etc. They were lovely jumpers, 100% Wool. Took ages to make as well. God bless my late Uncle Alf, what a Star he was at the time ! ....

Thanks Crafty/Astley. You couldn’t make up the coincidences in this thread. In the summer of ‘73 I was seventeen and living in Astley Close and working at a joinery making window frames. In one of the Sunday supplements, I saw a picture of Elton John wearing one of George Hostler’s jumpers (blue with a pale green square on the front) and decided I wanted one to go with my Inega cords. Went into the shop in Malcolm Arcade and tried to blag a Saturday job with him (so I could get a discount) but he didn’t need one as he sold next to nothing over the counter. Nice bloke, though, and he ended up giving me a discount and so I got one with two weeks of joinery pay for £55. When he shut up shop about a year later I got a Saturday job in a designer clothes shop on the back of having worked Saturdays for Hostler (they had no way of checking).
