i'm sick to death of people making excuses. We were rubbish, Rodgers made us worse with extremely poor substitutions, which makes you think he hasn't got a clue.

Why don't someone say, it was rubbish and the manager should answer to the fans for the pathetic mess he's turned this squad into.

Start being honest, stop the BS, l don't want to be part of this farce anymore. Point the finger at the problem and tell him if thats the best you can do you're not getting paid. Embarrass him don't cover it up. We've been s--t since he started tinkering, this is Pearson mark 2....

We have the squad to beat any team in the country and the manger who couldn't beat a under 11's side with it. He changes the team every game, i'd make him apologise to the fans and actually take responsibility for his balls up over the last 6 months.

I've got the raving hump and i'm not letting this ruin my week anymore. I was down on Leigh on sea beach with the kids and drove back to London to watch it, wish l hadn't as l was in two minds because l think we all knew, like we did under Pearson what we were gonna get.

We stand for this c r a p too often, Its Rodgers fault full stop, but they'll let him get away with it. He needs to be made publically accountable.

Trolls like Daz can fukc off.

Yep, I was alright with lockdown....no money, no football....pottering around in the garden and going for walks with the kids.

The re-introduction of the football has put paid to that, I'm in a constantly bad mood since that Watford bloke scored his first ever goal after playing the game for years.[:(!]

Please don't shout at me, but we've got nowhere near a squad that can beat any team in the country - when we're only missing Ricardo and a non-functioning Maddison, our 'game changer' sub is Demarai Gray.

I agree with everything else you say though - I look at that team and they look lightweight, spineless (apologies to Ndidi, Soyuncu and Evans) and lacking desire.

Something is going on. Dunno what though. Not sure I care anymore.

l said the squad Jabba, we won 10 in a row and scored for fun, in my opinion at that time with that team we "could" beat any team in the country.

He got all clever v Liverpool and as never gone back to what worked so well. I don't know if Maddisson was injured but hes as good a number 10 there is in the country and hes now looking useless. Vardy is the best English strike, in my books, but doesn't get a touch. You can go through the tem almost and say similar things, not one of them gets used to the best, whos to blame. Pearson played Kane on the wing and Vardy right side midfield, what a waste of talent, just like now.

I agree, something is going on !

Not that it was such a problem today as we should have been well ahead early but he's tried to play the oppo from the start (think Man Utd & Liverpool away early). I'm not saying that we don't need to consider what the oppo are going to do but we need to work out what we are first and concentrate on that.

Bnet, do we have the squad though?

It's pants replacing pants! Albrighton for Perez, square pegs round holes! No target man for an abrighton cross is as pointless as Heather McCartney running in Olympics!

Nacho is a busted flush! Gray flatters to deceive. Vardy lacks that much support he may as well call The Samaritans!

We knew this earlier in season, especially during January, when we could have strengthened. But we did not. We stood still. Now we are in serious danger of everyone overtaking us!

It is our own fault!

Totally agree with Bnet .The club is going nowhere and yesterday totally exposed the lack of depth in quality and the poor transfer policy.
We brought on Albrighton at the expense of a Belgian International player m the guy has been a great servant but he is not effective at this level.
Demari Gray has had numerous opportunities but again is ineffective at this level.
We have a local radio station that continually sits on the fence and is again ineffective in putting over the fans views.
To miss out on a Champions League place will be a disaster in the position we found ourselves
I fear this will be the outcome[:D]

Damn childhood tantrum at the damn stupidity of it all, I know we were not very good but I thought we were frustrating them into making mistakes we might capitalise on but all that IMHO went out the window after the subbing shamble and to bring on a winger for his crossing skills when they had a 6ft plus defenders was another big XXXXXX-up

we have'nt got the players against the top teams but this is where a tactically
Skilled manager earns his corn we have beaten top teams before and will do again but we do need to get our tactics spot on to win games like this,it's gets me mad when people moan and groan that the other side is had better players and more money than us yes they may have bit there Dynasty was built on youth and the brains of a manager.

The lack of squad depth is obviously a real problem. When Lampard needed to change things at half-time yesterday he brought on Kovacic, Barkley and Azpilicueta, later followed by Loftus-Cheek and Rodriguez. In the 2nd half when Rodgers desperately needed to change the way the game was going, he brought on Albrighton and Choudhury, later followed by Gray. The difference in squad depth between the two clubs is vast.

This is what I don't get why is everytime that we have poor performances, there is something going on. Players and managers are human they will poor performances. Maybe it's something as simple as we overperformed at the start of the season and out squad isn't as strong as some other teams. I still think we are having a very good season, If someone asked you at the start of the season you would get top six, semi finals of the League cup and Quarters of the F A Cup you would bit their hand off.

Lack of squad depth .,...well we will always suffer,as well with our buying power, but that should put more emphasis on our ability to find skill at a reasonable price they are out there young and hungry, before Christmas we were a totally different side blessed with pace and skill so what's gone wrong is there a split?? Are the players at odds with management so many imponderables as to our shocking loss of form and don't blame Coronavirus

The best that can be said about yesterday is that everyone other than Kasper and the defence had a collective off day. No-one has said we missed Maddison, who went AWOL the moment he was linked with Manyoo. Barnes had a nightmare, the rest were ineffective, even Wilf. I was expecting so much better of Praet, who I like, but he simply did not get into the game. The fact that we ran rings round Chelsea in the first half is good, but it has always been said that the real managers make a difference at half time, and yesterday proved this big time. If Rodgers has a plan B he has a funny way of showing it. Looks like 1964 and 2013 over again.

I’m as frustrated as anyone at the moment but is a conspiracy/ player v management always the reason for a downturn in form?
It’s become our ‘go to’ justification over the last few years and is a sad reflection of how the players are seen by the fans.
If there are problems in that regard we should look at some common denominators to see what’s creating them.

Clapham is on the right trail.
There are two contexts to factor in - the historical and the recent.
If we go back twenty years Chelsea became rich overnight as RA pours cash into the club and continues to do so for fifteen years before FFP comes in. So they have had years building their strength which showed in their depth of squad yesterday. Despite this we took points from them twice in the PL this season.
BR, in contrast has been building here for just over a year. So we have no business really expecting to compete with a club with so many advantages, but we do.
What has happened is that a really talented but young squad has proved not to have the stamina individually and therefore collectively for a full season.
This is nothing to be ashamed of and will, with the right recruitment be sorted. And all our really good lads will be a year more experienced next season.
If the season added few more points it will still have been a good one. Most of the current Premier clubs would swap teams with us.
So a bit more understanding and less knee jerk emotions would be perhaps suggest we are are on the up and can see a decent future. You don't challenge established wealth overnight.

I have spent most of my footballing life wishing that we were a established and respected top flight club, apart from MON era this is the best it's been for me.
Given that the financial clout of the top six, and many other clubs that are similar to us, I don't understand what people really expect.
I can't deny it's disappointing to see our season tail off, but to say that we are in trouble is ludicrous.
Years ago we would have 1 decent asset which would be sold to stop the bailiffs coming in, now we have several high value players that would not mean the end of the world if 1 or 2 want out.
We are having a bad spell, it happens, just look back over the last 40 years and then you will see we are actually enjoying a golden period.

I've dared to criticise him after the Liverpool and Man City and got shot down by a few on here. Noticed this after going to the Norwich game which was disappointing. What is more disappointing is his tactics and the way he's isolated Vardy just like his predecessor(two defensive midfielders) is alarming, yes he's brought a couple of players on but whoever is in charge of manager recruitment needs to be shot. I favour Cambassio. Dons tin hat.

Old lad I can't wait that long, if I am being kind January is not the time to recruit, but up until that time we were good now as in the last half a dozen games against indifferent teams we have lost the plot, players may not be robots but they train to keep their fitness in these games it is apparent from my point of view anyway they do not look anywhere
near the required levels
Going on to another thing our first half display against a ragged chelsea we should have been at least two up,as they were as poor as we were second half.

Now does money come into the equation with the big 6 or is it managerial expertise that builds you a big club?

I would have thought Managerial expertise is crucial in team building and that's one of our failings as we have chopped and changed had big names but apart from 2015/16 we have failed to capitalise on
To get any sort of consistency when building for the future, we are a stepping stone but that should not detract a manager from building a consistently good team capable of upsetting applecart

I felt like "packing this in"...

When McLintock turned us into a laughing stock.

When Jock Wallace left.

When I was one of 6,000, who turned up at Filbert Street.

When David Pleat made us woeful.

When Brian Little left.

When Mark McGhee left.

When Martin O'Neill left.

When we went into administration.

When we got relegated to Division Three.

When the three lads went for a Thai and got Pearson sacked.

When they appointed Ranieri.

Actually, I didn't think about "packing this in" at all. Not for one second.

My younger self would laugh at me, if I was moaning about where we are at present.

It’s garbage at the minute and has been since we blinked and gave Rodgers a whopping new deal to keep arsenal at bay. I see a young squad some of whom have been made the focal point of the clubs marketing, who now seem to think they’ve made it and stopped doing the things that got them to this juncture.

That's a failure upsatirs, in the managers office and of the senior players.

Our squad is threadbare and we made a big mistake not freshening it up in January.

Yet this is probably still going to be one of the best ever seasons but it feels like ‘the one that got away’. I’m comparing it to the end of the 2016/17 season when we still had a tiny window of opportunity to make a real statement on the back of the title win and run to the Champions League QFs. Instead of going all out for a top manager we gave the job to a man who is now on a short term deal as an Assistant Manager to a club facing relegation.

We just can’t seem to shake off that small club mentality.

Really? In this world? Don't notice many wealthy people(or football clubs) striving to be poor.
It's what makes the big six able to win everything every year.
2016 was popular because it broke this culture but let's not make the exception the rule.
The last time I looked four of the big six were behind us.

In December, arsenal approached Rodgers on the sly sounding him out for the job there.

A couple of days later, Rodgers signs a new contract on £150k a week, way more than any player.

Our form before the new contract was title challenging (2.2 points per game). Our form from the moment the ink went dry on the new contract is relegation form (1 point per game).

Either Rodgers has thrown his dummy out because we didn't let him go or the players have thrown their dummies out because the manager is now on a ridiculous contract. Or both.

Hide, wrong bus ? Not me, whether we like it or not money dominates where your club is likely to be. You can buck the trend and have a good or lousy season but ultimately there is a pecking order
It's doesn't take an Einstein to see that since the Premier League began the top clubs are rarely out of position.
Previous to that all sorts of clubs gatecrashed the top half.
Our current owners have been the best by a country mile imo, but to breakthrough the barrier we would need even wealthier backers.

Braunie, you seem unaware of the strategic policy at the club which accepts the logic of financial domination (now concreted in place by FFP which prevents any more entrants via personal wealth but does not act retrospectively).
Our club's policy is to invest in a state of the art training facility which hopefully will produce a stream of talent which can counter any loss to big clubs of individual players (whose transfer income will assist the training policy).
Will it work? Who knows, but it is a thoughtful way to counter the ability of the big clubs whose instinct is to wave big money cheques whenever they need to.
As BR is effectively MD of all this it is extremely unlikely that he would have listened to any big club....

That is, of course, the challenge as to simply become a big club talent system would be frustrating to put it mildly.
But equally that suggests that they would be knocking on the door which means the process is working.
Part of the plan is that it would be supplemented by sensible buying by us to find the Harrys and Mads. And forging a club loyalty culture like ManU's homegrown years would also be crucial and easier when training your own...
