Just watched the 1948 b/w version directed by David Lean. John Howard Davies,Alec Guinness,Robert Newton,Kay Walsh,Kathleen Harrison and Anthony Newley. Still a great film. Not least for a superb acting performance by Bill Sykes dog!
Smaller early roles for Diana Dors and Hattie Jacques as a singer in the Three Cripples pub!
Not without controversy even at the time of it's release with the Alec Guinness portrayal of Fagin, with make up and large prosthetic nose, being considered anti-semitic and perpetuating Jewish racial stereotypes!
Probably not that welcome in today's 'current climate' either!

Still think that Fagins plan to walk out of the cell being shielded by Oliver was never on ! one of the few joys over the last few months has been watching Channel 81 ,some of the films are suberb historical documents one of my great regrets is being asked to try out for the role of Bill Sykes in the musical version and not having the confidence to try for it .
