One for Surffers really to begin.

On the Pensions thread you said:

“I find it interesting that those who wanted a lockdown now find there's a price to pay and maybe personal wealth is more important than hiding away from the flu .

If a new variety of this flu appears next winter do you want more of the same impoverishment or expect the health service to do its job and contain the spread by infection control in the hospitals and old people's homes.”

I would expect there to be adequate supplies of PPE across the whole globe within 12 months and far more equipment like ventilators that would be needed for any similar type of outbreak.

I would expect lessons to be learned and a proper contingency plan to be created both by the Government and businesses with many of the lessons learned applied.

If this happened again next year I would expect a similar lockdown but as businesses will be more geared up to home working I do not think there would be as much of an impact to the economy. Even the public would have an idea of how to act and why.

The number one point of this lockdown was to save the NHS from being overwhelmed with extremely ill people to the point they could not cope. Also for the government to show they cared about the lives of the people living in this country. They’ve made a right mess of it but I think any government would have made similar mistakes. That would have to be the priority again. The other option is hundreds of thousands of deaths not just 35,000 or whatever.

Next year?

It’s this winter that’s worth worrying about.

For some businesses the problem is not being prepared but will their customers be able to use their products. The car manufacturers are a case in point
