The whole farce has achieved zero apart from putting the UK in the top 5 for deaths.

Major companies like Rolls Royce are now heading towards closing down and that's causing more long term damage than the virus.

4 million died of Hong Kong flu and the world went on without the farce we have now, the recession coming will cause far more deaths than than the virus.

There are more than one set of figures for the Hong Kong flu given the lack computers at the time.

Whatever it caused far more deaths than this flu with less economic impact.

This farce just shows the power of the media now to influence you halfwits.

I hate to agree with the spoilt Aussie fukkwit but there is a little truth in what he says.

Now, obviously being spoon fed an easy life he canít explain his point very well but you canít blame someone for their ignorant ways when they know no different.

But crippling the economy over this could have been avoided.

Strange is it not the northern hemisphere spring is here and deaths also infections are falling, while they increased during the lockdown.

The reccesion coming will dwarf the GFC also the banks will fail again.

In reply to the OP, and I can only speak for myself....
60 days of spending quality time with my wife and kids
60 days of not having to endure the daily stress of dealing with the public
60 days in which I shared in the chores of running the household, much welcomed by my wife.
60 days that I wouldnít have got back if there had been no lockdown
I am not saying itís a great thing in the bigger picture, Iím sure itís hell for some, but Iíve made sure that the 60 days has been lived to the full and shared as a family

With 60 days of "lockdown", we have a terrible death rate.

But it would have been catastrophic without these measures. The government themselves said it could have led to 500,000 deaths.

We will never know. But should be grateful for the saved lives.

On another note. If people are starting to think Sufferer is a good poster, then they have definitely put something in the water.

I find itís best to treat every day as if it could be your last. Breakfast of muffins, burger and fries and a pint of chocolate milkshake. Then a quick chat with a priest and Albert Pierrepoint. Then the phone call from the Home Secretary. Or not.

The government didn't predict 500000 deaths it was that eminent professor Neil Ferguson.Just take a look at his body of work over the years from Mad cow disease to Bird flu and many more history has proven he seriously over exaggerates on a mass scale. Why any government would ever listen to his advise is a mystery

some touchy fckers on here aint there ?

Sums up the Brit mentality.... I made it clear i was speaking for myself and that others would be in a difficult situation. But no, have a go at someone trying to take positives and make the best of it.
And for your information, my job is fcuked and will be for a very long time, my industry relies on social gatherings.

We are having to make do with no car, we don't have Sky TV and didn't ever rely on takeaway meals.

There are some sectors that are crying out for labour, in particular agriculture ......whoever has no way to have an income in this country must be pretty special.

If you are able bodied, there's work waiting.
If you are incapacitated, there are benefits

Moaning fcking Brits....best in the world at it

NLB, we've barely scratched the surface so far we'll be lucky to keep unemployment below 5 million, the value of industrial and retail property will plummet bad debt will soar. Then there's the cost to manufacturers outside the UK when their orders dry up. The ONS is always miles behind on it's figures

Not many are unemployed yet, most are furloughed so can't take paid work elsewhere.

When the furlough scheme ends or requires employers to contribute is when it will hit the fan

I thought the market would always expand to fill any holes ?
Or do we need a more planned economy?
New Zealand, which acted so much better than our lot in response to the pandemic, is planning to have 4 day weeks

New Zealand has a tiny economy compared to ours. A 4 day week means 4 days pay which might not be enough for some people and of course it assumes you have enough work for 4 days.

If you take on extra work whilst furloughed you lose the 80% and possibly your job if the employer needs you back quickly.
Ode codgers like me might find strawberry pick rather tough

i'm with you snooty.

despite reduced working hours (me), enforced holidays (me) and furloughed (her), we've made the most of it with the kids. no way would i have spent this much time with them, been on so many bike rides, walks, or played football with them in the garden.
we're eating better, cos i'm not snacking on shyte at the factory, living better. i'm sure i'll look back on this as 'good time' on a personal family level.

like you said, i realise this isn't everyones reality, but i can only speak of my experience.

btw, if you are complaining that prof fergusan over estimates (the 500k death figure if no lockdown) then remember he was also the guy who predicted 20k deaths with a lockdown.

I'm working from home and loving it.
I'm knackered though as I have to do the shopping, cleaning, walk the dog twice a day (quality time with my son), cooking at least half the meals (same as Adumass no rubbish snacks at work) and still doing 37.5 hours work.

I know we're very lucky as we're both working from home and haven't seen a cut in salaries, didn't get a payrise though or the annual bonus.
