Over the years I have had many a Pukka Pie and delicious they have been as well.

Last Thursday I had a Chicken and Mushroom and it was smaller and with less filling than a year or two back, the pastry overpowered the filling.

Can you Roofers recommend any
good individual Steak and Kidney Pies etc which are available from supermarkets etc. TIA

John, tomorrow I will be having Holland's Steak and Kidney puddings. Suet pastry with a good filling and nice gravy. 20 mins cooked in their containers on a trivet, with just a low hiss from the pressure cooker, fantastic.

They also make Steak and Kidney pies.

All bought from Iceland.

PS you may need 2 per portion.

Love the Fray Bentos steak and ale, they now do cheese and onion, both great, just watch your fingers on the tin.

I got that mad trying to open a Fray Bentos tin once that I took it out to the driveway and ran it over with the car a couple of times. It didn't work but boy oh boy did I feel better!

My first job was at pukka pies in brook st syston 1976 in tge butchery.
Also been to fray bentos in uruguay, had a tour round the museum, they used every single bit of the cow for one thing or another, what finished them was a salmonella outbreak in the 70's. Lovely little town.

I remember going to the Isle of Man TT in the 70s. Queued for 1/2 hour out side a chippy only to be given a deep fried Pork Pie, they had run out normal pies. It was awful.

Therefore I don't seem to moan about meat pies after that experience.

For the life of me can't understand why anyone would eat Pukka or Hollands pies. Any half decent butchers will make far better tasting stuff with far less additives, or don't butchers do pies south of Sheffield?

I never knew about that plaque in hinkley as I might have contested it, sadly I do know the full story of pukka pies, how it got it's name, the recipe , who devised it, and the full story of Mr Storer,a wonderful man, who was friends with my father for over 80 years.
And it starts in Leicester.

He was a good bloke to work for, paid decent wages and always gave you the time of day. It was a lot smaller then, I remember Marcus Rose of the tigers and England working there on holiday from uni.

No reason only the fact that HBBC seem to have erected a blue plaque containing false information, not good.

Suttonblue: Have you read that plans have been passed for the development of the Town Cricket Club? Looks like it will be superb when it's complete. They were supposed to play at Hinckley for this season

Two blokes from H&BBC came and screwed a blue plaque to the corner of my house yesterday. They've left it blank. I'm a little bit intrigued!
