It can get pretty choppy on the Leicester arm of the Grand Union

You need to check the shipping forecast before attempting to canoe down the weir on the River Soar outside the stadium.

It’s ‘German Bight’ not ‘bite’. A ‘bight’ is a curve - a large bay - in a coastline and also is the correct name for a curve in a rope or other line.

Clearly, if you did ‘go’ school (should be ‘go to’ school) you clearly paid very little attention.

I always used to listen out for the forecast for Humber whenever we played Grimsby away. Good to moderate, wind veering easterly but backing south westerly was usually a good sign. Visibility poor was a warning to watch out for 'Cleethorpes Beach Patrol'!

I once had a boat on the coast and found the shipping forecast essential. The warning 'sand in the vaseline' denoting a rough passage would petrify my crew. Moored in East London dock I once asked a particularly attractive waitress if she'd like to come on my boat. I won't be dining there again.

In October 1989 I went on the Around the Isle of Wight trip on the paddle steamer Waverley. It sailed anti-clockwise from Sandown Pier. Going past Ryde and Cowes it was a beautiful and calm Autumn day. We rounded the Needles and it then started to "get a bit choppy". By the time we rounded St.Catherine's and Ventnor it was moderate or rough, occasionally very rough,West 5 or 6 backing Southwest 6 to Gale 8 and we were clinging on for dear life!

.........I must admit that I rather 'lost it emotionally' on that particular voyage when it was announced that the afternoon deck quoits would have to be cancelled. It wasn't until an elderly Lady passenger strode up and slapped my face that I managed to regain any sort of composure!

may I suggest that Using your penis as a spike for the said game of quoits may have had some bearing on the ladies outrage? not everyone is as broadminded as you.
