Decision on a drive thru at Oakham imminent. Local opinion is divided. England's smallest county has resisted so far!

Oakham had an excellent flame grilled burger shop on its high street but went out of business after a relatively short time.
Maybe most of the residents are vegans.

The press are doing their best to make out that Oakham's a quintessential Olde England market town when it's been anything but for years.

Yes to the Golden Arches

Still, when they build those rabbit hutches they should get McDonald's to pay for a diabetes clinic because within ten years they are going to need it.

Hey, CTV just picked this story up. Rutland is world famous.

'Within the younger generations, McDonald's is a widely known meeting place for modified cars to then go on and perform street races and the location is almost perfect for it.'

Are these people @%^@^*# insane?

I lived in Oakham for 15 years and compared to the rest of Rutland, it is the poor neighbour. There are a few "upper" locals who will say that they don't want a Macdonalds, but the majority will use it. The place is dead now anyway, pubs are very rarely any good, shops aren't fit for purpose and traffic is awful.

I remember years ago a major building on the high street became available to buy. They asked the locals what it should be. The outcome was either a Wilko's or an art gallery. That sums the place up for me.

Maccy Dís in Oakham?
Itíll choke Ďem
To think that the Rutland Way
Of Life,
All hunt balls
And Young Jug Eared Farmers
Smoking crack in sheds in Edith Weston
Will be gone for good.
I once caught a Whopper in Rutland Water
On the Barnsdale Bank with a Boily
My lads even played KFC in the County Cup
In the choking dust of Ketton
But to go Large in the County Of Broad
Itís a bit untoward
As Innes would have said
Itís not Cheese and Onions
Itís more Ouch
And Get Up and Go.

Personally cannot stand them, the marketing that they do is brilliant and they have brainwashed the past two generations to liking the foam thing called a big Mac
Are they providing a bench for the scroats that it will attract after your change or a back rest for the Romanian big issue sellers that will also appear?
Lucky Rutland.
