Why does Southgate see Maddison as a difficult
Player in the first place.
Secondly why does he have to fight for a place, we have very little talent in the team but especially where a playmaker is concerned he is the only one we have needed his kind of talent for years now and if Southgate was that knowledgeable he should have known that by now

England historically have always gone shy on flair players, seemingly preferring so called 'safe options'. Tony Currie,Alan Hudson,Stan Bowles, even Worthington and Weller never got as many caps as their talent merited. Jimmy Greenhof criminally never got a full England cap yet his brother Brian got 18.
Hoddle,Gascoigne and Johny Haynes, even further back, were some exceptions with more caps. Haynes might have approached nearer a 100 but for a bad car accident when he was on 50 or so.
Yet Ray Wilkins accumulated 83 caps largely passing the ball sideways.
And we regularly had to watch Gunther Netzer or Lothar Matthaus, Roberto Baggio,Marco Tardelli,Andrea Pirlo or both the Laudrup brothers,Cruyff and Neeskens taking us to pieces.
David Batty and Carleton Palmer anyone?
