Churchill and Europe

After the second world war, Winston Churchill said in 1946:

“If Europe were once united in the sharing of its common inheritance there would be no limit to the happiness, prosperity and glory”.
Brexiteers disagree Winston.

Was that before or after the majority of the voting electorate disagreed with him, and voted him out?

I realise that everyone made up their minds a long time ago and I won't convince anyone of anything .. but the link below is pretty clear. Churchill 'believed' in a united Europe (I also know anyone who doesn't 'like it' will trash the source … but there are lots of references if you can be bothered). Fact is the EU counts Churchill as one of their founding fathers.

Also worth thinking about Thatcher's view's on Europe. Towards the end she hated some of the 'big state' tendencies of the EU, but she was probably the biggest single driving force behind the creation of the single market that Brexiteers are now so anxious to leave.

Fortunately, Churchill was long dead and gone before we got taken ( illegally ) into the " common Market " Anyone who thinks Churchill would be a remainer today given the whole shebang is run by and for the Germans is a fvckwit of the highest order. Some people need to seriously appraise their whole life and question their own reason for existence. If he was still alive he'd have you all shot for treason, and he'd be right.[:(]

What an intelligent response backed up by no evidence.

What a pitiful response backed up with no counter-argument from one of the usual suspects.[rle]

Churchill said these things after us defeating Germany (Hitler) and France (Napoleon) who also wanted a United Europe. Its just the methods employed which differ. The UK has always been happy with a Trading arrangement but very unhappy with the attendant Politics. Our history and resultant Politics are very different to Europes.
