Itís not very good is it.

Vape shops, charity shops, empty shops.

One decent furniture store and the old Irish menswear itís only slight plus points.

On a positive note, itís better than Oswestry

Odd name, Oswestry. Let's call this place Oswestry, why don't we? It would make a change from calling it the thing....you know, a collection of houses and a pub, that kind of thing. All in favour? Passed. Any other business?

Really? I stopped there a couple of years ago and found two great cheese shops and a market stall selling good cheeses.

Bearing in mind the only reason for our stop was to buy cheese we did well.

Chirk is worse, thereís nothing there at all.

Llangollen is much better, itís beautiful and much better for a stop off. I just thought their cheese would be more expensive from ye olde tourist shoppe.

The inhabitants are unfortunately now known as Oswegians which is the worst of 2 worlds really, making them sound like a cross between Aussies and Glasgow!

Interesting theory, sixthswan [^]

The thing is, did the town elders decide to change the name from something else in order to gain notoriety and hopefully tourism, or did the King's assassins - I think we can discount suicide - leave King Oswald nailed to a tree for like, ever, and people came from miles around because it was likely to be the only chance they would get to see a king nailed to a tree, naturally these people required refreshment so an alehouse and lots of cheese shops sprung up in no time, and that was the beginnings of Oswestry. I guess we will never know.

Lutterworth has a few good places to eat and great beers in the classroom

Harborough is a good night out - beer and food

Loughborough has some decent boozers and a good student vibe.

Hinckley is pretty grim

Don't forget the Paget, lufbra. and that little Moonface brewery.

The town has lost a few independent shops, but where hasn't? Churchgate is a pleasant pedestrian street, we still have M&S, Sainsburys and the big Tesco, and opposite the Moon and Bell there's a nice deli and an independent wine shop.

When you throw in the excellent market, two cinemas and a lively student vibe, I really don't know what there is to moan about. Great transport links as well.
