Hurtled over to Foxestalk as soon as the Roof went down to rejoice and tell them everyone on here was a caant and they couldn't wait to leave and were glad the Roof has died.
Check it out over there."The Roof" is the thread. Rats and sinking ships comes to mind.
Not dead yet eh, Mac & Mickey????

Hear what you say, Mac.
But it goes against the grain to read of mates I have known for almost 20 years being unfairly slagged off by some of the new arrivals on here.
If they had wandered into the Black Boy all those years ago and started to slag you and Micky off they wouldn't have made it to Albion Street without a fat lip.

Quislings are collaborators with an occupying force and Foxes Talk has no ambitions about the roof as far as I know.
My reservation about criticising this forum on there were because others were using their private message facility to do it and I was unaware of this method.
I stand by my views and am sad to do so as this board is being destroyed as a place for polite, rational debate and replaced by personal abuse from a noisy minority who will bring about its end.
I have been a member there for fifteen years so hardly a plastic.

I reckon it's about 18 years since I joined, and it's always been a place for piisstaking, abuse, disagreements, arguments boasts about the size of one's garden structures, and for seeking specialist healthcare advice from raving amateurs and lunatics.
Some people accept that, some can't.
I think it has reflected the wider societal changes of entrenched opinions, refusal to contemplate opposing views and the seemingly ever-growing conviction that one is personally correct; to blame the Roof for those things is ridiculous.
The growth of political threads is often tiresome, but it's not really that difficult to avoid threads that bore you.
Either because of the above, or despite it, my City following life has been transformed by the Roof and around 40 people I've met through it. I'm not quite foolish enough to expect all of them to be best mates with one another.
Long Live The Roof, I say [^]

The Roof is what it is, and long may it remain so.

I have missed it these last 36 hours, glad it's got its certificate back (and yes, I know you could get past the firewall, but it was a minor pain in the arris).

The great thing on here is it's not an echo chamber, where you just hear your own views repeated. And that goes for the football, the politics, the best place to stay in Rome, or whatever.

Plus, we are all dyed in the wool City fans of anything between I reckon 20 and 75 years standing.

Ever since Gene Hackman was given the leading role in the The Conversation instead of me I have harboured a wholly irrational and enduring hatred for the rest of the entire world. That I can be on here contributing with other lunatics has probably saved me from self destruction. So "Long Live The Roof" indeedydoody,I say!
While I am on here I shall impart to you all a well kept secret. That our own Filbo 65 starred in the first television series of Grizzly Adams before the lead role was taken over by Dan Haggerty. Filming on the set included a 'scaled down' version of the Grizzly Adams log cabin to make Filbo 65 appear to be much taller than he actually is!
In Series 1,Episode7, the scene where Filbo fights off the mountain lion has been rightly lauded as a classic of its kind!
(No mountain lion's or special effects personnel were harmed in any way during the filming of that scene, although Filbo did look very 'grizzled' afterwards).

Well, I always thought this place was a madhouse and this is confirmed one way or another on a daily basis. the only site that I know of that tolerates people like me. The sense of humour on here is the very best even when it's done unwittingly. As for the politics like it or not, we are living through very turbulent times and it's only natural that certain posts will turn out as they do, it's as divided as the nation is at the moment. But as has been said we are all City fans through and through and I love this site. Compare it to the childish so-called banter on Fox talk. I go on there for transfer info but would never comment. It's full of cliques and boring stentorian knowalls ( one particular clown, Bab's is the master of it) Long live Bentleys and all who sail in her!

I think it's a pity that relations between FT and Bentley's Roof have run into difficulties.

I remember when we used to go round, borrow a cup of sugar, accept with good nature their jokes about a forum that looks like it actually preceded Pokemon and is full of racist dinosaurs, zap in one or two quips of our own about PSI's, BAM's and 'are you 12' shortly before we got banned. That used to be fun.

But we did used to bring home the sugar. Sadly, that is no more [B)]

I do abhor intolerance and self perceived elitism at all its most wicked and evil levels.
I well remember sharing a First Class compartment with Angela Mortimore on our way to the Queens Club for the 1957 Crinoline Open. She was banned from playing that day with the reason cited as inappropriate Tennis apparel. Her hem was measured at one quarter of an inch below her knees. All our most vehement protests fell on deaf ears.
Our carriage for the return journey was packed with female tennis players incandescent with rage. Particularly Eileen Bennett-Whittingstall, Phoebe Holcroft-Watson,Violet Abigail Pinckney,Ermyntrude Harvey,Gwendoline Eastlake-Smyth and Phyllis Satterthwaite whose mother had knitted her tennis dress especially for the occasion!
It was only one week later that poor Dorothea Lambert-Chambers threw herself under a racehorse at Ascot!
RIP Dorothea.
So I do hope that this Roof will remain a bastion for equal women's rights,a haven for the downtrodden and under privileged unlike that horrible Foxestalk which can just go and do one as far as we are all concerned!

I do miss some old posters on here who've been put off by some of the repetitive XXXXXXe to do with politics and from quite probably having taken offence to some of the questionable prejudice based stuff.

But as Filbo said, you just have to sift through. There are still comedy gold moments. And the kernobends very rarely contribute to them.

A few points -
mac, my virus protection service did not stop me using the board but warned that it would be unsafe as it was vulnerable to 'criminals'.
Hence my trip to FT (with several others) to find out what the problem was. Some ex roofers joined in and some of their criticsm was valid, imo.
As at no time did I leave or threaten to I have not come back.
I notice that some blame the politics but I have never started a political post and if nobody did, that's fine as I prefer a football themed board anyway..
Finally despite soho's comment, there was little animosity, most feeling sad, as I do, that a minority are turning BR into an unpleasant experience.

A cruciverbalist writes: 'Kernobend' is an anagram of 'Breendonk', a small town in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. It had a grim past during the Second World War but is now most famous for the Duvel Moortgat Brewery where the Belgian beer Duvel (meaning "Devil" in the local South Brabantian dialect of Dutch), is brewed. As any fule kno. A nice drop it is too.
