I feel in the long term interests of the board it would be very foolish to hold this vote, we could deeply divide the board. Ordinary members simply donít understand what they are voting for and I would suggest we ask Mac and Micky to decide for us.

If 7 or 8 minutes of injury time are to be a regular occurence, then I'll miss the last train or the 17.25.

So in that case, it's a no from me

If it evens out the decisions to prevent the 'big' or home club bias then it's a positive. Other than that, I'm not a fan.

Rugby is a falling down competition and cricket is a standing around competition In both cases adding time to the game makes no difference because theyíre both tedious and slow

Unless the camera showing the 'offside line' is activated by the actual kick of the ball when the player plays it forward, we can't make millimetre offside decisions.

When you adopt technology itís a question of millimetres just like in Tennis, Rugby and Cricket. Horses win in a photo by a nose. If a line is drawn across then heís probably offside by a toe end and thatís enough. I'm afraid to say football as we knew and loved is finished.

"Works well in both codes of Rugby and Cricket so why not in football?

Part of football's appeal is the game's fluidity relevant to those other sports - where there are many natural breaks in the play at which point VAR can be employed conveniently. This is much less true of football...

Also, in cricket, it is employed differently with each team able to call for a set number of reviews (of umpire's decisions) - otherwise cricket matches would be even longer than they already are.

With that consideration in mind I can just imagine 'flaky' referees feeling intimidated into employing VAR too often (because they will be worried about negative reviews and criticism) resulting in football matches being extended to 2 hours playing time and ruining the flow/rhythm of the game.

So it's a "No" from me - but I'm open to change my mind if the above concerns are allayed by practice/experience...

"Getting it right is all that matters."

Really? I can just imagine the rhythm and flow of football matches (a major part of its appeal) being utterly ruined by constant referrals to VAR.

Football is an entertainment business - VAR may threaten its appeal - not a right/wrong technical box-ticking exercise...

You must be watching different games to me regarding football flowing.
Substitutions taking longer than ever
Players faking injuries
Goal celebrations taking longer than ever
Free Kicks taking an age whilst walls are setup and players arguing
Corners with players jostling and the referee intervening
Yes we have a free flowing game!

All of what you say is correct. And all of these things are clearly irritating you (and I and most other 'spectators') chiefly because of the negative affect they are having on the flow of the game. Adding yet another (and potentially even worse) cause for delaying actual play is hardly going to make the game better...

Agreed.
A few weeks ago I posted that maybe we should have a clock consisting of 30 minutes each way and stop the clock for
Substitutions
Goals scored
Injuries
VAR
20 seconds rule (then stop the clock) for corners, free kicks, throw ins etc.
I appreciate this is a touch strict but it would eliminate alot of frustrations re time wasting and added time would no longer exist
OK rant over!

Better still if the game restarts after 30 seconds following a goal the players would make sure they're back in position quickly.

Place a dartboard between the two technical areas. In the event of any controversial decisions then nearest the bull will decide if it was offside or not(VAR only to be employed to make sure nobody's toe is over the oche).
The team that gets the decision will win a cash prize and the speedboat!
Other exciting 'innovavations' could include a Blankety Blank cheque book and pen for use in the transfer windows, a Golden Gavel if you can make a profit on all of your 3 worst players and Deal Or No Deal for Tielemans!

It's a no for me - if there is a definite yes/no decision (did the ball cross the line, was the player offside), then anything to get the right decision has got to be good. But anything that is down to interpretation or judgement, then I don't see how it can work.

As for offside, most top flight clubs make their players wear GPS to track movements etc. so surely the best bet would be to somehow combine this technology with the goal line system, which would mean you would know exactly where a player and the ball was when the ball was played.

I suspect it is more about catering to the TV viewers than anything.
It seems less when at the actual match because any dodgy decision is discussed in the wait, but on the telly you can follow the process, particularly in cricket with its three elements...

Good point Filbo - I guess the rule would potentially need changing to say that offside is based on the GPS, but that in itself would be a huge can of worms...

How can VAR become instantaneous when it involves judgement calls by a human-being?
Goal-line is dealing with fact in two multi-camera'd locations; VAR deals with the whole pitch and grey areas.

with all due respect, you're all missing the point that actually pinpointing the moment in time when the ball is played forward, and tying it in time with a line across the back of the defence, involves human input.
or am I wrong?
