Almost another Hillsborough last night. Whose fault?

Reports of crushing outside the stadium in Guimaires prior to kick off, due to the late arrivals. Very unorganised by UEFA... The press will blame the drunken England fans turning up late bit here are a few quoted form people caught up in it....
"I queued up for over an hour to get in Gates 13 14 15....mobile tickets are just too slow...UEFA got it wrong again....and as for getting the train back to Porto....what a balls up that was..."
"What actually happened was that the App with tickets on failed and phone signal wasnít good enough for people to upload them again. To stop people getting in they closed the gates and shoved riot police in front. Loads of people were getting crushed or hit by police batons (an old bloke was crawling along the floor). They eventually opened the gates and just let all in but the game had already started. We make ourselves easy targets for the media but itís never a balanced view"

Relying on a phone app in a crowded environment, with all the issues with signals - is utter madness.

It was pretty rubbish having to queue up lined up on steps outside Porto's stadium for what seemed like an hour when we were over there.
The police seemed to take great delight in faacking us about.
It was much easier getting out - at half time!

Really, Mac? Gates kept shut until close to kick off and not enough turnstiles opened led to crushes. Police hitting crushed fans with batons?
Seems like similar circumstances to me.

Phone Apps use a QR or bar code to authenticate the validity of the ticket. I always take a screen shot of the code, no need to worry about phone signals then.

You couldnít do that Wints. The ticket was only activated onto your phone when outside the stadium and when you passed a reader. It could only be done using the mobile network.

Having hosted customers at The Emirates Stadium a few times in a hospitality box, if you get to within half an hour of kick off, the sheer number of people in the area makes it a nightmare to get calls and texts through. Iíve had customers wait for an hour or more outside just because I didnít know they were there.

Everything was awful about the stadium experience at Porto Soho. Thankfully everything else about the trip was marvellous. All the half time leavers on the same metro journey [:D]
