there's a few gone lately, Willy O'Hara, Leicesters own Rod Stewart as just passed away. Never heard a bad thing said about him in all hese years. Theres not many around town who wouldn't have known him. I've known hm since my teens not a mate but always had a chat whenever we bumped into each other. Sure it was down the City last time we spoke.

Does anyone on here remember Crazy Chris down at Grace Road in the late 70s / early 80s?

I remember Chris...gave us local youngsters the odd season ticket and we'd get loads in to the ground by passing the said ticket through the fence.
Which was pretty useful as there was quite a few injuries suffered getting into Grace Road for free back in the day, girls and lads,XXXXXXing barbwire and dangerous spikes.

No, Wellersson, that Rod is "Will" .... aka Steve Wilson .... He's very much alive and kicking, recently been to Gambia on holiday and delivered some furniture for me not so long back .... Man and Van removals business .... Yes, he's a regular down at Cafe Bruxelles, told me he goes down there a lot !

Crafty, this "Rod" would be aound Cafe Bruxelles, he was always around town. Wellerson would know this one, he used to come in the Invince from time to time, his brother "sheepshead" used to play darts in the pub. Will is off the Fairfield estate in South Wigston.

There wouldn't be much mistaking him.

Wellerson do you remember when we were sitting iin a bar in Salou recovering from the excesses of booze and we sat there, heard a XXXXXXney accent behind us, looked round and it was Will, he was DJing out there. Hes not a XXXXXXney but as plenty do, he adopted it at times. I remember when he first started dressing this way he had a mate who dressed the same as David Essex. Nice bloke and a great character.

I remember Rod Stewart mainly from the Horsefair
There were two Asian lads , brothers that he knocked about with. They were/are both car sprayers, one of them used to do a bit of spraying for my old man on the side , very good at what he did .His name was Beck or Begg.
What about old Swinger who used to spend his days walking round Aylestone/Saffron Lane areas,, remember him?

Waltho, yes Will O'Hara.

Northenr, Swinger was brilliant down the Saff, there was Tam who lived on the bench and the bloke who used to push his thumbs on everything he passed.
Then there was the lad who used to drive around Cavendish road area in his imaginary car, he only had a stearing wheel. We used to help him reverse park into tight gaps.

Micky -

"I was on the same bus as Chris many times with FOGR for Sunday league matches. He was on my bus to Swansea for the Gillette Semi the day Elvis died. He called him Elvis Prestley"

What years? I used to go on a fair few of those trips as a nipper, around 79-81. Notts, Derbys, Surrey, Worcs, Northampton, one of the Essex grounds, and I think Canterbury...

Cheers Bnet.

A few of us went on a trip.to Amsterdam through the mercury circa 1986, we were all about 19.

It was 25, the coach left town around 5pm, arrived in the 'dam at 10am the next morning.

The coach then returned home 8 hours later at 6 pm.

Will( Rod) was on the bus with his missus, & decided for a laugh to write joke names on the drivers checklist.
The driver blamed us lot,& a fracas developed on the ferry.

Will then owned up, abandoned his missus & friends & joined us down the red light of the dam for a session

We didn't know him at the time, but subsequently always bumped into him in town....a true character.

Filbo65: I started going to away games with the FOGR in 1977, in year we won the JPL, kept going on and off until I passed my test in '81.I remember going to Northants in my van when we lost in the Gillette and they threw bananas at Andy Roberts.
.
Shane: 2 Woods coaches left Grace Rd at 4 in the morning, The Elvis story was just breaking, It was wall to wall Elvis from then on, not good for a 17 year old punk. There wasn't a ball bowled BTW the ground was under water come midday

He used to let people know that he lived at 2-4-6 Milligan.

Knew Rum Weather well, as he used to sleep on Spinney Hill Park, Humberstone Park or Evington park. Knocked around East Leicester mostly, General Hospital area. Used to put his bags down, chat for 5 mins, give you a tip on the horses, and tap you up for a quid ! Paul's Fish and Chip shop, on Jellicoe Rd/Green lane Rd corner, always gave him a massive free bag of Fish and Chips every Friday night, and he used to sit on the shop step eating them.

I think the lady with the Teddies was Connie ... she also collected copies of the Mercury every night.

Anyone remember Rose Joseph ? .... The West Indian lady who wore blokes suits .... she would try to flog you a bracelet and then would start shouting theft at the top of her voice ....

I'd get hung on here if l told you what the twinnie asian Rod was known as. It began with P and ended with I then Rod, the twinnies used to paint the heaps of XXXXXX cars me and my mate sold when we dabbled in the car game, had a unit in Oadby. They were pretty good, our cars had more filler than metal but these 2 made them look good. Any punter who had a magnet with them would be off straight the way !
