Only just recovered from yesterday's Repair Shop. A Lady bought in an old violin and asked them if they might be able to restore it. It had belonged to her Grandmother who had been forced to play it in the camp orchestra at Auschwitz. Every day to keep the new intakes calm as they arrived on the trains. That violin had kept her Grandmother alive. She managed to survive until liberated and died in this country in 1947.
They restored the violin beautifully, replacing all that had been missing and carefully keeping in the repairs that had been done to it in the death camp!
When the Lady came to collect it and saw it she was just overwhelmed and in tears. They had invited one of the country's top violinist's especially to come along and play it for her too. By that point I was unashamedly in tears myself!

My favourite item was the Lady's Muff Brush.

How the auctioneer kept a straight face is a mystery.

Link: ...but what is it used for ??

That stuff about the violin reminded of a visit to Bletchley park when the issue of restoration came up.
School one said that any sort of restoration is wrong and ruins the original's accuracy.
School two said the opposite.
So the question of the famous huts came up and should they be allowed to be affected by nature until they disappeared like a castle did?
Or should they be continually be mended?
the answer adopted by the park was to allow one to fade away and restore another...the perfect English compromise.
