...Undercover Hippy, The Donkey (10 I think).
Seen them twice before, great reggae based original songs. A bit left wing for some on here.[;)]
I might miss the start (football?) but meeting my misses and a few friends from Kettering who are making the trip.
Very highly recommended

Weird.
I guess that would be like Black Panther Polka. They wouldn't smoke herb, just head straight for the bar.

I don't know about that. Reggae music went from lover's rock and I-love-Jah remarkably quickly (probably because Haile Selassie died and 1977 saw no sign of Marcus Garvey's comeback), and headed straight for the evil batty-boys and their likely damnation by Jah, who'd turned into a different person by then.

I'd say this qualified as a defection from the Green Party to UKIP.

I think you're confusing Alt-Jah with National Calypsoism. 'Gimme more Tempo and Limbosraum' goes back to the mid-fifties.

I enjoyed it. As Ketterfox says, helped clear the football from my head. And the cricket, to a lesser extent.
Might go and see them in Brighton next week.

I always thought that lovers was a particularly British thing. Much loved by women of a certain age, who weren't into roots so much.

It was just progression really, anti batty bwoy dancehall followed on from the first digital stuff like King Jammy.

The ladies tended to like songs that didn't start 38 times at blues parties till somebody shot the DJ in the head.

People like Ken Boothe and Gregory Isaacs were threatened by a predatory hostile bid from UB40, who backed by EMI money produced so many versions of abysmal lover's rock that it sent us all to sleep. It was during this time that Buju Banton and his ilk gained ground spreading lots of homophobia - which wouldn't have been so bad had the music been listenable, which it wasn't.
