Very good Jimmy.

I love trams. I use them everyday. The thing I hate about them in Leicester though, was hearing older people tell how they used to get their bike wheels trapped in the rails. [smi]

I would love to see them in Leicester, but cuts to public transport is far more likely in this day and age.

As a kid I was chucked off my bike in Woodgate trying to go straight on when the rail was going right (No. 4 service).
And the rising car use led to complaints that trams got in the way, again the flexibility thing.
Added to which, the capital investment would be enormous and then still face the same problems...

The powers that be can't even afford to run a bus to Anstey after ten past nine.
Next, somebody will envisage a monorail down Charles Street. :)

We have trams (streetcars) here, and they are fantastic as they are linked to other transport hubs, overground/underground trains and bus. so easy to get around without a car.

It grieves me to admit it ,but Nottinghams tram system is a cut above anything that Leicester can boast of ,their buses are clean fairly cheap and unlike Leicester the drivers are sent to a charm school before bein allowed out on the road.

The thing is DP, you reduced a grown up conversation about a local issue with a trite poke at people who do a thankless job and which has nothing to add to the discussion.
Sadly, it is really typical of this board by the same group of people who feel the need to join despite having nothing to say...
