She needs to raise £1,400.00 for them and any kind of help at all would be most welcome.

have we got anyone in common scoops? so he can exchange contact details.

l can't help your daughter personally, i've only done half marathons and the last one l did i'd been proper on the p i s s for 3 days, it was easy though ! but perhaps l was still a bit drunk.

My niece from Great Glen is doing the London marathon, and l think my youngest is training for one as well. I'll ask over the weekend if they have advice. By the way they haven't stopped getting on it. Think this might be a family problem, didn't realise until l just typed that.

From time to time, people question the worth of Bentleys Roof and just write us off as a bunch of old feckers.

We are unashamedly the 'Dads Army' of football forums, but I would say this thread answers all the critics [;)]

all Roofers are pretty brilliant in their own right, but great teamwork like this is a powerful thing [^]

Spot on Wombat.

We may often disagree on football matters, politics, religion etc.. but the roof comes together to help each other, when needed.

Bnet has been brilliant and now Mali too.

It's for a great cause and I can't thank them enough.

Scoops,
Ran London 2015 in aid of children with cancer. Been injured on off but hoping to do it next year.
Training wise, get up to 19 or 20 miles, and have done a few 15 and 16s along the way.

Its a life changing experience, make no mistake. I can remember pretty much every mile.
Few tips if its your first.

Dont get there too early as you could be standing around for hours. ( I am guessing if its a charity pace will be in Red zone which is by far the busiest)

Dont get too concerned with time and pacers. Start a minute mile pace slower than in training if wanting to "complete rather than compete".

Far too many get carried away by the whole thing and go off far far too quick. You will see these slumped at side of road later on.

You will see some brutal sites after mile 17 which are never shown on the television.

I deliberately went a minute mile slower for first half then picked it up and finished last 13 quicker than first 13.

Mile 18 -21 after canary wharf were the toughest as crowds weren't as prominent, but once through that the last 5 miles is amazing.
Psychologically overtaken at latter stages is a huge boost.

The last 8 miles is running from the heart and head.

Final piece of advise, DO NOT WALK STOP OR GET CARRIED AWAY IN WHATS GOING ON THROUGH THE TOMB OF DOOM tunnel at mile 23.
This is the first time you will experience silence throughout the whole race and its where people break down in sheer emotion. Just keep going. They have tried to install images of motivational comments and is usually heavily marshaled.

The experience hat kept with me even to this day is the sheer noise of the crowd from start to finish apart from that tunnel.

I raised £2600 with help of some roofers and finished in 4-49.
Get the link up here and i will donate.

So gutted not competing this year and will be jealous as hell watching.
Th esense of achievement after is overwhelming.

If you are spectating, you can see the runners 3 times if you time it right. Cutty Sark at 7, Bermondsey 11 and Canary Wharf 18.

Final piece of advice.
Good luck, enjoy it,and dont over think the Maranoia, which every runner gets prior to the race

Stevo

Thanks for the great advice

Itís not me running it thankfully otherwise they would have to make it a 2 day event.

My daughters running for Victa

The kind offers from roofers is amazing and sheís so grateful.

We will hopefully have a Frankie Wortho shirt, 15/16 Champions shirt and a bottle of Captain Morgan rum to auction.

Iíll stuck the links up here when weíve got the gifts and sheís auctioning them.

Happy for other roofers to have first dibs if anyoneís interested in bidding as itíll raise money and go to the right people.
