No Deal Bryan Ferry £138 Concert Scrapped

The Geordie crooner is adamant that he won't be appearing live in the event of no deal.

'It's cost me £138 to trigger my release clause at Nottingham Oddfellows Club in Humberstone Gate' he wailed, 'But I am a man of principle, and I couldn't put my fans through that.'

No-one knows quite what he is talking about, least of all Bryan Ferry, but most have put it down to the fact that Newcastle Utd are particularly shilo atm and/or the fact that during the hot summer past, the commemorative wax statue erected in his honour at the city's Arts Centre was left out in the sun where it melted down to a tribute to Warwick Davies.

Bryan was also booked at play at Hamburg Oddfellows Club, until his agent pointed out it was just another Jerry Hall.

Cheers Micky. One of my Big Train favourites. Prince hunting down jockeys just shaded it.

A coin for the Ferryman,
And your passage is paid
To that dark nether land,
Where you will be laid
A coin for the Ferryman,
Just drop them in his palm
On his ferry he stands,
So pale,bony and calm
A coin for Charon,
He must have recompense
On the Styx rowing on,
For a copper cent.

That's the Citizens Club at the bottom of the hill. It's still there and the entrance is on Mount Road.
The City fan who collapsed and died getting off the bus at Everton a couple of years ago was the Club Secretary at the time of the trajedy. He had taken over from his Grandfather!

I remember it was on the corner of Hill Street and a road that joined it the full name was Manchester Oldfellows Club , the beer was cheap and the company was good the Citizens Club is in Mount Street it's far bigger .
I know most of the committee is Mark Higgot still the steward of the Citizens, Pete Mustin took over the committee from his dad I think it's one of the few clubs that is in profit , cheapest pint in Hinckley.

Another classic Micky. I also liked the Jekyll and Hyde. Pity Chris Morris doesn’t do more like it.

Borebage, The Citizen's Club is on the corner of Hill St & Mount Rd.

The Shelby Dance Academy must have been there c50 yrs. My daughter was there from '87-'01 & it celebrated its 25th anniversary during her early yrs.

That ones really slipped me old memory,Micky. Pat Jeffries and Chris Addy with 2 others shared a house at the top end of Thorneycroft Road opposite the Lawns/Queens Road. Then Pat later moved down the road and round the corner to a house only 2 or 3 doors from the Citizens Club entrance on Mount Road.
Must have passed this Oddfellows place countless times![sad]

There was no huge sign just a wall sign. It had a good darts team and a pool table. Typical club really. It was a big shock when it shut. Shelby Dance took it on later. I can't remember where they used to be, can you?

I'll have a gander to that old Hinckley site on Facebook, look for some 1970s carnival programmes, that might have the answer.
