Potentially even more important is the Grieve amendment being passed. It means that if May's deal is rejected next week, Parliament will direct what happens next rather than the government. Most experts seem to think that this has basically taken a no-deal Brexit off the table, though others disagree...

To ny surprise a mate of mine voted out . Hes a very wealthy and successful international business man . He said in effect . Don’t worry Henry . In 2 years time theyll be a 50/50 compromise and nothing will really change but I think it will be easuer to do deals with emerging economies and fairer imigration quotas will mean a more talented workforce will emerge from Asian Pacific rim . The added bonus is UKIP will be irrelevant . I reckon he was spot on

In 2 years time the EU will be irrelevant, because France, Italy, Spain and the majority of members are struggling to keep up their voters living standards while the EU clowns fiddle on.
The World has moved on its far easier to manufacture in the Asian Pacific and the balance of world power is moving to the East.

This will be an Asian Century. Best that Europe sticks together then.

We will soon stand between the United States, currently ran by a lunatic and the Far East dominated by China, with a bit of loony Russia to add to the fun. All three looking to dominate.

A united Europe is the best buffer between the emerging world order.

Can't see the UK faring well on its own in these circumstances.

The EU cannot even offer jobs to its youth anymore the Sun rises in the East as the Sun sets on the West .
China has investment worldwide it's manufacturer's are creating better quality goods and getting into the service sector , the EU cannot complete on population or the wealth they are creating.
Even Airbus is building planes in China now also most car companies are now opening plants in China , the EU has no direction it just thinks up new taxes.

Sixthswan. That was the whole idea of the Common Market - 50 years ago!

Unfortunately the EU has become a power crazed monolithic mess, as with so many things that "go too far" we're now getting a backlash and no one knows what to do

I wouldn't include Russia as part of an "Asian Century". Their economy is performing worse than ours currently and is too dependent upon raw materials (particularly fossil fuels)...

Without Russian gas Europe would freeze in Winter but it's only the old eastern Russian states that are part of Asia most of them are rich in oil and minerals and doing very well .

I included Russia as separate from Asia. It can't be excluded as a threat to Europe as it is a global military power.

Economically, the GDP Purchasing Power Parity league table is currently:

China
EU
US
India
Japan
Russia

The EU is not one country but you could group India , China and Japan together as Asian that alone puts the EU in the shade.

Only that India and Japan have poor relations with China - to put it mildly - and you can't really treat them as one trading area. Because they are not.

The EU may be separate sovereign states but they do represent a single market...

But what about the electorate being shafted by people wanting to do their own thing, will the second vote get run over roughshod if the verdict does not suit their aims, because it sounds as though we do not count in the grand scheme of things.

Because the country isn't going to be any less divided than it is now. You're simply relying on the percentage of people being so fed up with Brexit that they'll do anything to get it off our television screens, which it won't.

You will view it as a victory for common sense. Other people will view it as an attempt to leave the EU, but they won't let us, except on terms which are unacceptable to Parliament. I don't think that is democracy, to me it feels like we've been conned into being part of a super-state, and there is nothing we can do about it.

I must admit, as a leaver, Im starting to feel beaten. The plotters and cowsrds have won. Perhaps we have to give them their un-democratic, un-constitutional, second vote. We just have to hope that despite the biased media campaign, leave can pull it out of the bag.

Astley, the ONLY people who have a vote are the elected.

Whatever they decide, this IS democracy in action . The very thing that people said they'd lost, and wanted back.

FIAB,
no, a second or third vote won't bring the country together.
so is it better to be a divided country in the EU or divided outside with all the projected economic issues that come with brexit.
take your pick, there's no simple answer, the govt have known that from day one which is why they've dragged their feet and hidden information from the public for as long as possible.

Can you blame them? Everything they do is picked apart by one faction or another to serve political ends. Since they got wind of 'the people's vote' that was the end of further concessions by the EU, because they know that they've only got to wait for that to happen, or wait till we have an election and they make mincemeat of Keir Starmer. That was why Dominic Raab resigned.

I said a few days ago that we ought to have made 'no deal' a starting point, when the political will was there, and force the French and Germans to come to us if they want one. I think they would, because they're not mad. We would then have better terms and hopefully, ones that Parliament could agree on.

It's a mess, that's for sure [B)]

Much is made of the economic issues but nothing said of the fact the UK is bailing out EU basket case economy's to the tune of £560 billion upto now.
Do the taxpayers in the UK think its better to spend one's money on Polish roads, relocating industries to Eastern Europe and watching billions end up in the hands of criminals.
The EU whore Ms May must have a vested interest in this corruption.

Ill elaborate for you Adumas. “A straight in, out vote on membership of the EU”. Thats what it said. That means to be gree of the auspices of the EU, come what may. To go our own way. “The government will enact the decision of the refferendum”. You can spin it how you like, but you know in your own mind what the choice was. Dont tell me that it was too close to act on. Instead, gather an amount of people, upwards of the populations of Leicester, Nottingham, Coventry and Derby, and tell them that there are not enough of them to sway the balance.

but it is not that simple, in/out. never could have been.

(or if it is, someone needs to tell them how to handle the ireland problem for example.)

so maybe the big problem is that expectations weren't set right from the start, even pre vote. e.g. they should have made it clear that although the question is simple, be aware that it will need to be a negotiated exit, just like every legal breakup.

The EU has made NI a problem because they want to stop Brexit , a strong government would have called their bluff and ignored the calls for a border it's the South's problem not the UK's.
The question was IN or OUT and OUT won it's that simple it's time to act like a grown up country and leave in march.

too many MP's worried about their own agendas and not the slightest bit of worry about what brexit means to the country as a whole, these petty squabbles have nothing to do with the right and wrongs of leaving, which is contemptible when you are voted into office to see the country out of control not knowing which way to turn
